We understand the need to provide a flexible working environment partnered with team collaboration and socialisation. Therefore, we operate a hybrid working model with 3 days of working from home per week. This role is based in the Cape Town office.

Please note, the successful candidate will be required to work UK hours, 09:00 to 17:30, Monday to Friday, and therefore will be able to take leave on UK public holidays in place of recognised South African public holidays.

Position Overview:

The Property Accountant will work closely with our clients to support all property accounting areas. Responsibilities include both subledger and general ledger activities, working on various projects, and learning new systems, processes, and procedures. The responsibilities below are not exhaustive and may include additional sub-tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in administering all levels of Property Accounting and special projects as needed by management.
  • Assist with creating transactions and invoicing tenants, including posting receipts for tenant payments.
  • Conduct credit control activities, including aged debt reporting, sending arrears letters, and liaising with tenants on queries.
  • Support coding supplier invoices and producing supplier statements.
  • Manage the full end-to-end process with service charges, including raising on accounts, recovering expenditure, billing voids, and year-end reconciliations.
  • Perform bank reconciliations.
  • Assist with VAT reporting.
  • Handle month/year-end activities, including closing periods, running GL reports (e.g., Trial Balance), and reconciling balance sheet accounts.
  • Onboard new portfolios, including static lease data and financial opening balances.
  • Reconcile existing portfolio data against client leases and manage lease lifecycle.

Key Requirements:

  • Ability to work during UK hours and South African public holidays, with UK bank holidays substituted.
  • 2-4 years' experience as a property accountant in a commercial or residential management company.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Effective communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and under deadlines.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
  • Dependability, motivation, and flexibility.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with MRI Software applications.
  • Understanding of Property & Lease Management processes.
  • Comfortable with non-technical System Administration tasks.
  • Knowledge of Turnover Rent or IFRS16.
  • Previous client-facing experience.

We’re obsessed with making this the best job you’ve ever had!

Our perks include office breakfasts, quarterly lunches, virtual social events, employee-led groups (DEI, Women and Allies, Pride), Medical Aid, Pension scheme, Parental Leave, 25 days annual leave plus public holidays, 16 hours Flex Time Off, Tuition Reimbursement, and the option to work remotely for two weeks annually.
