Flexibility: Remote
Location: Cape Town, Johannesburg & Port Elizabeth.

Role Overview:

As a Commercial Underwriter in our talent pipeline, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality underwriting services to our international market clients when demand arises. You’ll play a key role in retaining existing clients and driving new business while maintaining high operational standards.

Core Responsibilities:

Financial:

  • Proactively reduce cancellations and achieve retention targets.
  • Contribute to reducing operational expenses while optimizing underwriting processes.

Client Relations:

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional communication with all stakeholders (clients, brokers, account executives, insurers).
  • Foster long-term relationships to ensure client satisfaction and business growth.

Business Processes:

  • Adhere to company quality standards and regulatory requirements across various processes including new business, renewals, and endorsements.
  • Analyze client portfolios, request and assess quotes, provide necessary information to clients, and raise premiums as required.

Documentation & Filing:

  • Ensure all relevant documents are filed electronically and physically for accurate record-keeping.
  • Manage cancellations, ensuring they are processed in line with retention strategies.

Refunds & Invoices:

  • Raise invoices and request refunds from line managers, filing the appropriate documents electronically and physically.

Client & Team Communication:

  • Maintain proactive and timely communication with clients and account executives regarding portfolio movements.
  • Meet and exceed productivity targets, contributing to team success and performance improvements.

Learning and Growth:

  • Embody the ICS Way and demonstrate a commitment to continuous self-development.
  • Share insights and knowledge with the team to improve overall performance.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Matric or equivalent. Degree or Diploma advantageous
  • Experience: 3+ years' experience in Commercial Underwriting
  • Willing to time shift for international brokers
  • Location: Based in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth or Johannesburg, South Africa. For IT and team support.
  • Candidates must have a dedicated home office setup, including a reliable internet connection and a quiet, professional environment for remote work.
  • English proficiency, presentability and confidence. You will be required to submit a video recording.
