Junior Sales Person – CNC Machining & Metal Fabrication Services

1. Role Purpose
The Junior Sales Person will be responsible for identifying, engaging, and converting new business opportunities for CNC machining and metal fabrication services. The role involves supporting the sales team, conducting client visits, preparing quotations, and helping expand the company’s footprint in manufacturing, engineering, mining, automotive, and fabrication markets.
This position is ideal for a motivated individual with strong communication skills, technical curiosity, and a willingness to learn the CNC machining industry.
2. Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Lead Generation
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities for CNC machining, fabrication, and engineering services.
- Conduct cold calling, emailing, LinkedIn outreach, and site visits to prospective customers.
- Assist with developing and managing a sales pipeline using a CRM system.
- Attend industry trade shows, exhibitions, and association events to generate leads.
Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain productive relationships with new and existing customers.
- Understand customer requirements for machining, welding, fabrication, and custom metal components.
- Provide product/services information and handle customer queries professionally.
- Follow up on quotations, proposals, and outstanding negotiations.
Technical Sales Support
- Work with engineering and production teams to prepare accurate quotations for CNC turning, milling, laser cutting, bending, welding, and assembly.
- Collect technical drawings/specifications from clients and communicate clearly with the internal technical team.
- Learn to interpret basic technical drawings (advantageous but can be trained).
- Understand basic machining processes, tolerances, materials (mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium), and fabrication workflows.
Sales Administration
- Prepare daily and weekly sales reports as required by the Sales Manager.
- Record customer interactions, quotes, and opportunities in CRM.
- Assist with tender submissions, RFQs, and documentation.
- Ensure accurate, timely delivery of quotes and follow‑up activities.
Customer Visits & Territory Management
- Plan and conduct site visits to factories, workshops, OEMs, and engineering firms.
- Gather information on customer needs, machine usage, and pain points.
- Maintain an organised diary and call cycle.
3. Required Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12.
- Valid driver’s licence and own reliable vehicle.
- 1–2 years of sales experience (industrial, fabrication, metalworking, or engineering environment preferred).
- Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Advantageous
- Exposure to CNC machining, metal fabrication, technical manufacturing, mechanical parts, or engineering firms.
- Ability to read or learn to read simple engineering drawings.
- Experience using a CRM system (HubSpot, Pipedrive, Zoho, etc.).

6. Working Conditions
- Primarily field‑based with regular customer visits.
- On‑site and workshop exposure for training on machining processes.
- Travel within Gauteng (and occasionally nationally).
- Standard business hours; occasional after‑hours meetings or events.
7. Compensation & Benefits (Suggested Framework)
- Basic Salary: Dependant on experience – typically R15,000 to R25,000 month
- Commission Structure: Performance‑based, uncapped or tiered.
