Software Engineer - Edge Cloud Infrastructure

About the Team:

Edge platform is a Kubernetes-based distributed system managing hundreds of PoPs worldwide. It provides cloud-native interfaces for deploying and managing location/latency-sensitive workloads, including traffic acceleration, CDN caching, gaming, livestreaming, RTC, edge computing, etc. We (IAAS group) seek experienced software engineers skilled in Kubernetes, virtualization, or networking to enhance workload lifecycle management, multi-tenant isolation, performance optimization, and scalability.

1. Design & Develop Global Edge IaaS System: Work on architecture, coding, and integration of ByteDance’s global Edge IaaS platform, focusing on Virtual Machine and Bare-metal management, resource scheduling, and orchestration.
2. Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with product managers, SREs, and TPMs to define and develop feature requirements, building a cloud-native hyperconverged edge infrastructure management system.
3. Ensure Reliability & Performance: Implement monitoring, alerting, and failover mechanisms to guarantee high availability and low latency. Continuously optimize code and infrastructure configurations for better user experience.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computing Engineering, or related field.
• 2+ years of backend development experience in Go or similar languages (e.g., Rust, C), with ability to learn new frameworks quickly.
• Experience deploying and managing Kubernetes clusters and containerized applications in production.
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies (Libvirt/QEMU/KVM) and Linux system administration.

Preferred Qualifications

• Contributions to Kubernetes or CNCF open-source projects.
• Experience with global, cross-functional engineering projects under tight deadlines.
• Understanding of edge computing, CDN, load balancing, and distributed storage/compute architectures.
• Experience with virtual machine networking (VLAN, BGP, OSPF) or cloud networking services (AWS VPC, Azure Virtual Network).
