To weld and fabricate parts in accordance with specifications and per company standards.
Marks off and fabricates structural steel and other metal stock to make or repair metal products and structures.
Assembling exhaust enclosure frames and large bracketry.
Key Duties and Responsibilities (Accountabilities)
- Study blueprints, drawings or specifications to determine weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positions
- Clean and prepare metal surfaces for welding by flame
- Cutting, thermal cutting, gouging, bevelling, grinding or filing
- Weld and fabricate plates, pipes, structure as required
- Cut, file and grind seam and joint to attain specified fit, using cutting torch, file and power grinder
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux cored arc, plasma arc, Mig and Tig
- Lay out, position, align and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers and rulers
- Correct use of PPE and safe working procedures
- Operate all equipment and tools safely and to manufacturers guidance
- Manage hazards effectively and take appropriate action to mitigate risks
- Identify/detect faulty operation of equipment and/or defective materials and notify supervisors
- Comply with health and safety protocols and obligations per the standards, regulations, guidelines and procedures and as legislated (under the Occupational Health and Safety Act)
- Ensure excellent housekeeping and cleanliness of personal work area and general workspace and other areas that are utilized throughout the workshop and surrounding environment
- Work effectively both in a team environment and/or independently, without supervision
Required Experience and Skills
- A strong ‘zero harm’ work ethic
- Trade Qualification (level of AQF certificate IV or AQF certificate III) including at least two (2) years on the job training; or at least three (3) years of relevant experience that may substitute for these qualifications
- May be required to perform other duties (e.g. filling of bulk containers; forklift driving; warehousing; Ecoblue manufacturing; general repairs; general labour & assisting other workers in the factory; housekeeping) when the vehicle is not being utilised
- Ability to communicate and work effectively as part of a diverse and dynamic team
- Ability to cope well when working under tight deadlines and associated pressure
- A strong internal customer & external stakeholder focus, with forward thinking solutions
- An ability to communicate technical information to non-technical staff in a way that is easy to understand
