The National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia (NIBM) is seeking a motivated, dedicated, and experienced Veteriarian to join our team.

About the Position

The National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia (NIBM) is seeking a motivated, dedicated, and experienced Veteriarian to join our team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for maintaining SPF small laboratory animal breeding program (routine animal health check and injury treatment, yearly breeding program planning and monitoring, yearly program budgeting and yearly program documentation on overall program description and its related standard operating procedures);
  • Responsible for activities related to regulatory and administrative compliance of AAALAC accreditation (AAALAC international accreditation program description report, AAALAC annual report and communication). Knowledgeable about relevant legislation, including any appropriate ethical review process and veterinary care and use of animals;
  • Responsible for reporting and updating NIBMAEC regarding the status of AAALAC accreditation program (quarterly animal care and welfare report);
  • Responsible for planning and carry out activities directly related to the animals to promote their welfare, such as yearly scheduled of health monitoring and health management for animals and personals, yearly mandatory water, diet and bedding analysis, animal phenotyping, breeders mating plan, anaesthesia, analgesia and euthanasia;
  • Responsible for planning and monitoring:
    • The overall animal husbandary activities carried out by assistant veterinarian and assistant technologist such as animal mating, observation and care of animal and animal selection based on animal health for animal sales activities;
    • The overall animal breeding routine activities carried out by assistant veterinarian and assistant technologist such as daily animal care (water and diet), cage changing and cage washing;
    • The overall documentation of weekly animal strain stocktakes such as breeder, reserved breeder stock, stock for sales, stock for in-house used, animal cuddling etc carried out by assistant technologist;
    • The overall activities of updating animal diet and bedding stock for breeding program carried out by assistant technologist and assistant veterinarian;
  • Responsible for animal sales planning, communication/process (order request, quotation, PO, DO, Invoice) with client, BDIM and monitoring packaging and delivery by assistant technologist/veterinarian;
  • Responsible for animal sales planning and business proposal for long term animal supply contract;
  • Responsible for R&D grant proposal for animal science with application to animal breeding for value added animal stock characteristic product form AAALAC breeding program;
  • Responsible for animal care and handling SOP’s update for AAALAC program;
  • Responsible for AAALAC breeding program asset maintenance and documentation;
  • Responsible for carrying out procurement for AAALAC breeding program such as yearly diet, bedding, asset maintenance, animal analysis etc;
  • Responsible for educating and training in house study personnel for animal handling competency (guidance to animal technician and scientists in breeding program);
  • Responsible for managing controlled drugs to be used in IPARF including procurement, storage, usage and disposal; and
  • Other tasks as instructed by the superior.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Malaysian citizens;
  • Minimum Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in or any related field and recognized by the Malaysian government from a local or foreign higher education institution or a qualification recognized as equivalent;
  • At least one (1) year of experience in breeding management of small laboratory animals including rats, mice, guinea pigs and rabbits;
  • Experienced in performing clinical sign observations and necropsies for small laboratory animals (rodent and rabbit);
  • Experienced in histopathological analysis, data interpretation and assessment for small laboratory animals (rodent and rabbit);
  • Experienced in animal science R&D (writing research proposal and carrying out research);
  • Trained in AAALAC program is a value-added advantage;
  • Candidates must have a keen interest in animal science R&D;
  • Candidates must have a good analytical skills, planning and documentation; and
  • Able to work independently and a good team member.
