Theatre Teacher IB DP and MYP Middle and High School

Reports To

Middle and High School Principal

Primary Functions
  • Provide leadership and organization for the Theatre instructional program within the Middle and High School.
  • Foster creativity, confidence, and collaboration through performance and dramatic inquiry.
  • Work with colleagues to maintain high standards in teaching and learning aligned with the IB MYP and DP frameworks.
Duties and Responsibilities
Curriculum Development and Delivery
  1. Design and deliver engaging lessons aligned with MYP and DP frameworks for Theatre.
  2. Integrate acting, directing, design, and performance theory in inquiry based units.
  3. Explore global theatre traditions, styles, and practices to broaden cultural understanding.
Planning and Coordination
  1. Collaborate with other subject areas for interdisciplinary performances and projects.
  2. Develop inclusive lesson plans that encourage student voice and collaboration.
  3. Organize theatre productions, showcases, or festivals that celebrate student creativity.
Assessment and Feedback
  1. Use IB aligned assessments to evaluate student performance, reflection, and conceptual understanding.
  2. Keep accurate student records and communicate feedback effectively.
  3. Participate in parent conferences and contribute to progress reports.
Resource Management
  1. Manage theatre spaces, props, scripts, and technical equipment.
  2. Work with leadership to secure resources for productions and classroom needs.
Professional Development and Collaboration
  1. Participate in workshops and training to enhance knowledge of theatre pedagogy and IB expectations.
  2. Collaborate with performing arts colleagues and contribute to school productions.
  3. Stay current with trends in drama education, global theatre, and performance theory.
Communication and Engagement
  1. Communicate clearly with stakeholders about events and student learning.
  2. Prepare theatre related content for newsletters or school media.
  3. Promote appreciation for theatre as a global art form.
  4. Host workshops or guest artist sessions that connect students with the professional world.
Student Support and Safety
  1. Create an inclusive environment that encourages risk taking and mutual respect.
  2. Differentiate instruction to meet a range of performance and technical interests.
Additional Duties
  • Supervise a drama club or related activity.
  • Lead one after school performance or event.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Middle and High School Principal.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Education, Theatre Arts, or a related field. A Master degree is preferred.
  • Valid teaching credential or certificate in Theatre or Performing Arts.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience, preferably in an IB international school setting.
  • Experience teaching Theatre in MYP and DP frameworks is highly desirable.
  • Strong background in acting, directing, or design.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural international setting.
