Job description

In this role, you will be responsible to offer technical advice and provide comment to support in early engagement, conceptual studies, FEED, and on inquiry specifications for customers/Account Managers with regards to ABB’s integrated solutions within the oil and gas, chemicals LNG segment. You will work in collaboration with other TSSS within their domain (i.e. Electrical, Telco, Digital, etc). Providing Technical Support during the technical meeting, product presentation and negotiations. You will be responsible to formulate competitive proposals, taking into consideration on best available solution / product mix, for each individual opportunity assigned to you. Ensuring bids and proposals are well documented in a timely manner and with appropriate level of details, including full and accurate cost. You will also collaborate with extended stakeholders (i.e. Project, engineering, product and leadership) and ensuring all risk review processes, assessments & approvals are adhered/documented in the preparation of the proposals.

This role is contributing to the Process Automation Energy Industries Business – Hub Asia Region. The position is based in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

You will be mainly accountable for:
  • Develop controls, automation, and digital solution proposals for the Power & Water, Oil & Gas, Energy Transition and New Energy segments.
  • Generate and shape proposal solutions that are firmly based on the specific process requirements, operational philosophies, and industry standards relevant to each segment.
  • Translate customer process needs into a coherent control system architecture (DCS/PLC/SCADA/SIS), integrating the required electrical, automation, and digital layers.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC/IEEE/API/ISO and segment-specific codes.
  • Support the tendering cycle by preparing technical proposals, compliance matrices, solution descriptions, and value‑engineered alternatives aligned with industry best practices.
  • Work closely with sales, engineering, and product teams to ensure proposals are competitive, accurate, process‑aligned, and fully compliant with customer specifications and sector‑specific requirements.
Qualifications for the role:
  • Engineering degree in Electrical, Controls, Automation, or related field.
  • 12–15 years of experience in automation and control systems across industrial and energy sectors.
  • More than 8 years’ experience coordinating and delivering complex Bids & Proposals, including large multi‑discipline tenders.
  • Extensive exposure to Power Generation, LNG Regasification, Water, Wastewater.
  • Extensive experience in proposing and managing retrofit / modernization projects.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness, fast‑thinking, and effective problem‑solving skills in challenging tender environments.
  • International, cross‑BU, and cross‑division experience, with the ability to operate effectively in multicultural settings.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in local language.
  • Collaborative, skilled in managing tasks, organized, and highly motivated, with the ability to work within tight deadlines.
