Senior SQL Developer / Data Engineer (SQL Server / On-Prem)

This is a fully onsite role. Working hours follow Australian time, starting between 6:00 AM – 9:00 AM MYT. You will observe Australian public holidays, meaning you’ll work on Malaysian public holidays. If Australia has fewer public holidays than Malaysia in a given year, the difference will be offset with additional annual leave.


Due to specific operational and regulatory requirements, this role is currently only open to local Malaysian talent.


Our Customer

An Australian‑based provider of full service and online broking, corporate finance and financial advisory services to private, institutional and corporate clients.


We’re looking for a Senior SQL Developer with strong SQL Server experience to manage and enhance our on‑premises datanvironment. The role focuses on ETL development, SQL Agent jobs, and data feeds, while working closely with the team. There may be opportunities to support future AWS migration projects.


Key Responsibilities


  • Design and build scalable on‑premises data pipelines using T‑SQL (stored procedures, views, functions), SSIS, and Python for ingesting, transforming, and storing data (APIs, CSV, XML, etc.).

  • Lead SQL Server engineering, including schema design, relational data modelling (ERDs, keys, constraints), indexing, and query optimisation.

  • Develop, deploy, and manage SSIS ETL packages, scheduled via SQL Server Agent, ensuring reliable automation and monitoring.

  • Create and maintain SSRS reports for internal stakeholders and external clients.

  • Support and enhance stored procedures powering the CRM system.

  • Maintain data governance and security standards, including auditing, archiving, compliance, and data quality validation.

  • Contribute to potential hybrid cloud integrations with AWS services such as Redshift, Glue, S3, and RDS.


Core Technical Skills


  • SQL Server 2016: T‑SQL, stored procedures, query profiling and optimisation, indexing.

  • SQL Server Agent: Job scheduling, monitoring, and troubleshooting (ETL, maintenance, data feeds).

  • On‑Prem Data Engineering: Data modelling and warehousing, ETL development, PowerShell scripting, Git, CI/CD (Redgate, Flyway).

  • SSRS: Report development and maintenance.

  • Data Governance: SQL Data Quality Services, compliance frameworks.


Highly Desirable Skills


  • SSIS: Package development and optimisation.

  • Python: Data processing (pandas, polars, sqlalchemy) and automation.

  • AWS: Redshift, Glue, S3, RDS, Lambda, Kinesis for hybrid architectures.

  • Additional Exposure: Spark, Kafka, Azure SQL.


Experience


  • 5+ years in data engineering, including 3+ years with on‑prem SQL Server.

  • Experience in performance optimisation, migrations, and production support.

  • Exposure to hybrid AWS environments is an advantage.
