Job summary

A leading insurance company in Malaysia seeks a Senior Software Engineer with a strong background in Java application development. The ideal candidate will have 5-8 years of experience, solid object-oriented programming skills, and familiarity with various web services and frameworks. Responsibilities include building high-performance applications and collaborating with teams to ensure project success. Knowledge in LIFE insurance and mobile development are preferred. Senior Software Engineer (App Developer)

Position: Senior Software Engineer (Java Developer)

The Role:
  • Responsible for building and maintaining Java applications, including managing Java/Java EE application development while providing expertise in the full software development lifecycle, from concept and design to testing.
  • Commitment to collaborative problem solving; translate business functions/requirements into technical design and product quality.
  • Contribute in all phases of the development lifecycle.
  • Develop high‑volume, low‑latency applications and deliver high‑availability and performance.
  • Translate application design and use cases into functional applications.
  • Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable application coding.
  • Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and propose solutions to these problems.
  • Prepare and produce releases of software components.
  • Proficient in Java.
  • Solid understanding of object‑oriented programming.
  • Familiar with various design and architectural patterns.
  • Skill for writing reusable Java libraries.
  • Knowledge of concurrency patterns in Java.
  • Implement automated testing platforms and unit tests.
  • Analyze and perform evaluation on defects raised by users to further advise.
  • Provide support for SIT/UAT.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment with minimum direction and management oversight.
  • Gather requirements around functionality and translate those requirements into elegant functional solutions.
  • Develop documentation as appropriate requirements.
  • Good knowledge in front‑end development skills and experience.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends on regulatory compliance, emerging threats, and technologies to better safeguard the company.
  • Highlight any potential concerns/risks and proactively share best risk‑management practice.
  • Other responsibilities entailed.
The Person:
  • Recognised university degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Preferable tertiary qualification in IT and insurance industry certification (e.g., LOMA).
  • Minimum 5–8 years experience in application developer position.
  • Preferably with LIFE insurance domain knowledge & exposure to packaged insurance products are highly desirable.
  • Experience with Objective‑C is preferred.
  • Experienced in RESTful web services, automation testing and performance tuning will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in major web, application & database servers & frameworks such as Apache, JBoss web server, WebLogic, Oracle, Spring, Microsoft IIS, .NET Framework & Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Prior experience in mobile development is an added advantage.
  • High level of integrity, takes accountability of work and has a good attitude over teamwork.
  • Takes initiative to improve the current state of things and is adaptable to embrace new changes.
