Job summary

A food manufacturing company in Penang, Malaysia, seeks a candidate for their Research & Development team. The successful applicant will be involved in various product-related R&D tasks including reviewing designs, preparing specifications, conducting evaluations, and updating documentation. A Diploma or Degree in Food Science or related fields is required, along with at least three years of experience in the food industry. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently are essential.

  • Knowledge of food-related quality management systems is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Involved in Research & Development of product-related matters.
  • Review and proofread designer artwork for accuracy.
  • Prepare technical specifications for the design and export teams.
  • Assist with documentation for exports.
  • Conduct studies to optimize packaging solutions.
  • Coordinate sensory evaluations for new products.
  • Evaluate raw materials for cost savings and quality improvement.
  • Oversee production trials when necessary.
  • Update R&D documentation regularly.

Job description

Involved in the Research & Development of product-related matters, including for in-house and potential OEM products.

Review and proofread designer artwork and supplier output to ensure accuracy and quality.

Prepare and provide technical specifications to the designer and export team.

Assist the export team with the completion of necessary documentation.

Conduct carton fitting studies to optimise packaging solutions.

Coordinate sensory evaluations for new products to gather feedback before mass production.

Evaluate alternative raw materials to achieve cost savings and enhance product quality.

Oversee production trials when necessary.

Prepare R&D reports based on completed projects.

Ensure all R&D documentation is regularly updated.

Perform ad hoc tasks assigned by a superior when deemed necessary.

Requirements

Candidate must possess at least a Diploma or Degree in Food Science/Food Technology/Microbiology or equivalent.

3 years or above experience in the food industry.

Able to work independently with minimum supervision and well-equipped with a multi-tasking ability.

Possess good communication and interpersonal skills.

Familiarity or knowledge of FSSC2200, GMP, HACCP, and ISO quality management systems and other food-related regulations will be an added advantage.
