Job summary

Act as the on-site Geotechnical Engineer responsible for managing all geotechnical aspects of mining and construction projects at BEM. This includes pit design and slope stability reviews, failure mitigation, geotechnical risk assessments, and implementation of geotechnical management systems. The role also supports mine planning and operation through proactive monitoring and technical leadership.

Key Accountabilities
  • Responsible to the planning of acquisition geotechnical data program i.e., drilling and mapping.
  • Conduct stability analysis of Mine Pit and Waste Dump design in the mining area.
  • Conduct reviews to improve slope design, monitoring strategies, and risk management processes.
  • Design and amend mine pit based on outcome of analysis.
  • Responsible for mine scheduling/planning of the mine.
  • Develop and implement mine geotechnical standards, templates and procedures in accordance with mine policy and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain Ground Control Management Plans (GCMP) in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate geotechnical hazards in open‑cut coal mining operations.
  • Review all plans and designs in mining operation, earth work of civil infrastructure construction and asset monitoring that impact geotechnical related matters.
  • Review and check on the submission by contractor (i.e. drawings, design reports, method of statement, etc) with adopted engineering standards and good engineering practices on geotechnical related matters.
  • Liaise with contractors and consultants on matters related to design, technical and construction issues.
  • Coordinate with other engineers/department/asset owners and interest groups concerning design, technical, and engineering regulations, standards or policies.
  • Participate in the assessment/evaluation process of the Consultant Technical & tenders.
  • Develop and implement geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring plans.
  • Analyze and monitor data to predict potential failures and implement proactive measures.
  • Ensure that all relevant technical and safety standards are complied.
  • Ensuring QAQC in place and project punctuality.
  • Communicate geotechnical risks, recommendations, and monitoring results clearly to mine management and operations teams.
  • Lead investigations during geotechnical incidents and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Build and manage relationships with internal teams, contractors, and consultants to ensure effective collaboration.
  • Contribute to medium‑ and long‑term geotechnical planning aligned with business objectives and production targets.
  • Manage project budgets and resources effectively while demonstrating integrity, respect, and alignment with SEB values.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology, and certified by MQA.
  • Minimum 8‑10 years of relevant geotechnical experience, including at least 3 years in mining.
  • Able to use geotechnical software to perform slope stability analysis (LEM/FEM). Familiar with Rocscience geotechnical software.
  • Experienced in managing soft ground environment is an added advantage.
  • Interpret complex geotechnical data and apply sound engineering judgment under strict safety and environmental frameworks.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Operate within strict safety and environmental frameworks, demanding attention to detail and thorough documentation.
  • Manage multiple priorities under pressure while meeting deadlines.
