Job summary

A leading manufacturing company in Selangor, Malaysia is seeking a Legal Officer responsible for drafting and reviewing contracts, ensuring compliance with legal standards, and providing administrative support to the legal team. The candidate should possess a Bachelor's degree in Law and at least two years of relevant experience. Proficiency in English and Mandarin is highly advantageous. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent critical thinking, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Law or equivalent required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, notably Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin is a strong advantage.
  • Capable of maintaining confidentiality and dealing with sensitive information.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review contracts and legal documents to ensure compliance.

Job description

Document Drafting and Review: Prepare and review contracts, agreements and other legal documents to protect the company’s interests and ensure legal compliance.

Research and Compliance Support: Conduct basic legal and regulatory research to support the legal team. Assist in monitoring changes in laws and regulations relevant to the company’s operations.

Compliance Management: Review and develop internal policies, procedures and guidelines to align with current legal requirements and mitigate potential legal risks.

Risk Mitigation: Identify and mitigate potential legal risks, developing strategies to protect the company’s interests and minimise liabilities.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal and external teams to support business initiatives and ensure legal considerations are integrated into all aspects of operations.

Effective Communication: Clearly explain complex legal information in a concise manner, facilitating understanding across all levels of the organisation.

Legal Administrative Support: Maintain and update the legal contract database and compliance register. Monitor contract deadlines, renewals and obligations, ensuring timely follow-up. Handle administrative tasks such as document execution and stamping. Assist with the preparation of legal reports, presentations and meeting materials.

Other Duties: Perform any other duties or ad-hoc assignments as instructed by the Legal Manager or management.

Requirements
  • Possess at least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in Law.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Have at least two (2) years of working experience.
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin, including written skills, is a strong advantage.
  • Detail-oriented, resilient under pressure and a collaborative team player with excellent critical-thinking abilities. Able to deal with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
