A leading international engineering firm in Malaysia is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer. The successful candidate will lead design deliverables, coordinate with other disciplines, and mentor junior staff. What will you do?

In this position, you will join our Buildings business, where you will play an integral part in a team of highly skilled specialists that ‘bring ideas to life’ for our clients across all types of projects. We know the work we do is vital in assisting our world’s economic development and, it is the technical expertise and the depth of knowledge of our people that really sets us apart. Here are the key things you will do to ‘bring ideas to life’.

Design & Documentation

• Lead and prepare electrical design deliverables, including:
  • Single Line Diagrams (SLD), power distribution layouts (HT/LV)
  • Lighting, earthing & bonding designs
  • ELV & Security system and schematics
  • Load calculations, cable schedules, equipment schedules
• Produce and review detailed engineering drawings and technical specifications.

Coordination & Compliance

• Coordinate electrical designs with other disciplines (mechanical, structural, architectural).
• Ensure compliance with local regulations (ex: DOSH, BOMBA, TNB, SPAN) and industry standards.
• Liaise with authorities and statutory bodies for approvals of electrical designs.

Project & Client Management

• Lead technical meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
• Provide engineering support throughout tendering, construction, and commissioning.
• Assist in contract administration, variation assessments, and technical submittal reviews.
• Mentor and supervise junior engineers and technical staff.

Quality Assurance

• Conduct technical checks, design reviews, risk assessments, and quality control.
• Ensure project deliverables are on schedule and meet technical and safety standards.

Site Support (as required)

• Provide technical support during site implementation and testing & commissioning phases.

Education & Registration

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field, from a recognized university.
• Registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).

Experience

• Typically 6–10+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience in consulting or similar engineering environment.
• Experience in M&E design and coordination for commercial, residential, institutional, or industrial projects.
• A strong background in building electrical design within a consulting environment will be advantageous.
• A strong interest in working on innovative, energy efficient and sustainable projects.

Technical Skills

• Solid knowledge of electrical building services: power distribution (HT & LV), lighting, earthing, ELV, and Security systems.
• Proficient in AutoCAD; Revit/BIM skills are an advantage.
• Competent in applying Malaysian Standards (MS), IEC/IEEE standards, and local regulations.
• Good understanding of tender documents, specifications, and contract procedures.
• Provide technical leadership for projects, including planning, coordination, and managing electrical design activities with minimal supervision.

Soft Skills

• Strong project management and coordination abilities.
• Excellent communication (English & Bahasa Malaysia) and interpersonal skills.
• Leadership capability to mentor junior engineers and lead design teams.
• You should be pro‑active with the ability to work independently or part of a team and possess good communication skills and business acumen and interpersonal skills.
