Job Summary
The Section Head, Group Credit Policy Development is responsible for leading the development, review, and implementation of robust credit policies and frameworks across the RHB Banking Group. This role ensures that credit policies align with regulatory requirements, best practices, and the bank's strategic objectives, while effectively managing credit risk.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the end-to-end development, review, and enhancement of Group-wide credit policies, guidelines, and procedures for various product lines and customer segments (e.g., retail, corporate, SME, commercial).
- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis of industry best practices, regulatory requirements (e.g., BNM, Basel), and emerging credit risks to inform policy development.
- Collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including Business Units, Risk Management, Legal, Compliance, and Operations, to ensure policies are practical, implementable, and meet business needs while maintaining strong risk controls.
- Present proposed policy changes and new policies to relevant committees and senior management for review and approval, articulating the rationale, implications, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Oversee the effective communication and dissemination of approved credit policies and guidelines across the Group, ensuring clear understanding and consistent application.
- Develop and implement a robust framework for monitoring the effectiveness of existing credit policies and recommend adjustments as necessary based on portfolio performance, market conditions, and regulatory changes.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on credit policy interpretation and application to business units and other relevant departments.
- Manage and mentor a team of credit policy professionals, fostering their professional growth and ensuring high-quality policy output.
- Participate in internal and external audits related to credit policy, ensuring compliance and addressing any findings.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related quantitative field. A Master's degree or professional qualification (e.g., CFA, FRM) is an advantage.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of extensive experience in credit risk management, credit policy development, or a related function within the banking or financial services industry.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing credit policies for various asset classes and customer segments.
- In-depth knowledge of banking regulations, particularly those related to credit risk (e.g., BNM guidelines, Basel III).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable policy.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities, with experience in guiding and developing junior team members.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
