The Operations Manager is responsible for leading and transforming TR Malaysia’s entire manufacturing operation to achieve stable output, improved quality, higher machine utilisation, and a culture of discipline and accountability.
The Operations Manager will lead Production, Maintenance, Tooling, Process Engineering, and Production Support teams to achieve monthly output and margin targets, while ensuring compliance with global TR standards and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
A. Operational Performance
- Deliver monthly production output, productivity, scrap, and OEE targets.
- Ensure smooth daily operations across Cold Heading, Thread Rolling, Secondary Processes, Sorting & Packing.
- mprove machine utilisation by implementing discipline, proper scheduling, and downtime control.
- Lead daily tier meetings and resolve shopfloor issues quickly and effectively.
- Ensure Production follows PFMEA, Control Plan, SOPs, and standard work.
B. Quality & Customer Satisfaction
- Ensure process stability to reduce customer complaints and escapes.
- Strengthen in‑process inspection, first‑off verification, SPC, and reaction plans.
- Work with Quality to close 8D actions and prevent recurrence.
- Drive defect reduction plans (in‑house, supplier, outsourced processes).
C. Maintenance, Tooling & Asset Reliability
- Oversee all preventive and breakdown maintenance programs.
- Improve MTBF and reduce MTTR through structured TPM.
- Ensure spare parts planning, machinery safety, and equipment reliability.
- Work closely with the Tooling & Die team on die life, die performance, and cost optimisation.
- Lead continuous improvement in cycle time, changeover, layout optimisation, and waste elimination.
- Standardise process parameters and ensure adherence across all shifts.
- Support the rollout of D365 and future MES/OEE systems (data accuracy, shopfloor discipline).
- Support automation projects such as autopacking, optical sorting, barcode scanning, and digital reporting.
- Build a disciplined, performance‑driven, and safety‑conscious shopfloor culture.
- Strengthen supervisor and line leader capability through coaching and structured routines.
- Ensure attendance management, shift discipline, and operator competency.
- Promote teamwork and open communication while upholding TR Malaysia core values.
- Work closely with the Safety Officer to enforce EHS standards and audit findings.
- Ensure machine guarding, lock‑out/tag‑out, ergonomics, and chemical/ waste compliance.
- Lead behaviour safety practices, toolbox meetings, and risk assessments.
- Achievement of monthly output (MT/pcs) and OTIF.
- OEE improvement (target range based on machine family).
- Reduction of customer complaints & internal defects.
- Reduced changeover time, scrap %, and rework.
- Improved machine utilisation and stable shift performance.
- Successful execution of D365 shopfloor processes.
- Compliance with EHS standards & zero major non‑conformance.
- Improved manpower discipline and competency.
Education & Experience
- Degree/Diploma in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in manufacturing, with at least 5 years in supervisory/managerial roles.
- Exposure to cold forming, thread rolling, stamping, metal machining, automotive fasteners, or high‑volume precision manufacturing will be advantage.
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing, TPM, CI, and problem‑solving tools.
- Good understanding of:
- machine PM systems,
- industrial engineering (cycle time, line balancing, layout),
- SPC, PFMEA, Control Plan, APQP, PPAP,
- OEE & productivity tracking,
- basic automation & sensors,
- ERP systems (advantage: D365)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or related field; MBA is an advantage.
- Minimum 8–12 years’ experience in operations management, preferably in automotive or manufacturing industry, with regional exposure.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, supply chain, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience managing multi‑country operations in Asia, including cross‑cultural team management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop and implement operational strategies.
- Proficient in ERP systems and operational management tools.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of regional languages is a plus.
