Overview

The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC), also known as Bulan Sabit Merah Malaysia (BSMM), is a leading humanitarian organization established by an Act of Parliament. The MRC National Headquarters (NHQ) invites qualified candidates to fill the position of Compliance / Legal Senior Officer.

The Compliance / Legal Senior Officer will support the development, review, and implementation of legal policies, agreements, and compliance frameworks aligned with MRC standards. The role focuses on ensuring legal adherence, drafting critical documents, and contributing to policy reviews with a strong emphasis on human rights principles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Legal Documentation: Draft, review, and revise agreements, contracts, and legal documents to ensure compliance with national laws and organizational policies.
  • Provide legal opinions on contractual terms and obligations.
Policy Review & Compliance
  • Conduct thorough reviews of existing policies and procedures to align with legal standards, including human rights law.
  • Assist in developing new policies and frameworks to mitigate organizational risks.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Collaborate with internal departments to address compliance issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Educate staff on legal obligations, compliance protocols, and updates in relevant legislation.
  • Liaise with regulators and legal advisors as needed.
Human Rights Integration
  • Apply knowledge of human rights law to ensure MRC initiatives and operations respect international and local standards.
  • Advise on legal matters related to humanitarian activities and stakeholder engagements.
Requirements
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Legal Studies, or a related field.
  • Additional certification in Human Rights Law or Compliance is a plus.
Experience
  • 2–3 years of professional experience in legal roles, preferably within government, NGOs, or corporate compliance environments.
  • Proven experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements.
  • Hands-on experience in policy review/development and human rights law applications.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
