Sunway University is seeking a detail-oriented Learning Designer to support the design and development of high-quality online and blended learning experiences that meet Sunway University’s standards and external accreditation requirements.
The incumbent is responsible for designing and developing engaging, accessible online and blended learning experiences by translating academic content into structured learning flows and assessments. This role combines instructional design expertise with digital production skills to build courses on Sunway University’s learning management systems. Working closely with academics and stakeholders, the incumbent ensures pedagogically sound, learner-centered, and scalable offerings aligned with the University’s digital and blended education strategy.
Key Responsibilities
1. Instructional & Learning Design
- Apply instructional design models such as ADDIE, SAM, backward design, and rapid prototyping to structure online and blended learning experiences.
- Use relevant learning theories, including Constructivism, Cognitive Load Theory, Multimedia Learning Theory, and adult learning principles, to inform design decisions.
- Map programme and course learning outcomes to assessments, activities, and weekly learning flows to ensure coherence, alignment, and appropriate learner workload.
- Develop clear storyboards, scripts, and structured content outlines to guide digital development and multimedia production.
2. Technical Course Development
- Build and maintain courses in LMS platforms (Canvas, Blackboard) for Sunway Online.
- Create interactive activities using tools like H5P and Articulate (quizzes, scenarios, simulations, gamified elements).
- Embed digital assets (SCORM, rubrics, multimedia) for intuitive navigation and engagement.
3. Multimedia & Content Integration
- Prepare detailed briefs, scripts, and storyboards for multimedia production and integrate assets into course builds, ensuring alignment with learning outcomes and accessibility standards.
- Apply Multimedia Learning Theory principles to enhance clarity, manage cognitive load, and improve learning effectiveness.
4. Collaboration with Academics & Internal Teams
- Collaborate with academics and stakeholders to translate subject expertise into online-ready modules, assessments, and activities, and provide guidance on adapting classroom teaching for online and blended delivery.
- Work with internal teams (IT, QA, student support, marketing, etc.) to ensure courses are fully aligned and ready for delivery.
5. Project Management, Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Manage project timelines and deliverables, keeping stakeholders informed of progress, risks, and dependencies.
- Maintain accurate documentation of versions, design decisions, and technical configurations, and support quality assurance reviews with updates based on feedback and analytics.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of learning design practices, templates, and workflows.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Education, or a related discipline. Candidates with a Master’s Degree is an added advantage.
- Experience designing and developing online/blended courses with strong instructional design skills.
- Proficiency in LMS platforms (Canvas, Blackboard) and digital authoring tools (H5P, Articulate Rise/Storyline).
- Knowledge of instructional design models and learning theories relevant to online education.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with academics and cross-functional teams in structured environments.
- Strong communication, organisational, and time-management skills, with attention to detail and learner experience.
- Adaptability, openness to feedback, and commitment to continuous improvement.
