Job summary

A construction firm in Malaysia is looking for an Inspector of Works to oversee architectural and civil works. Job description
Inspector of Works (Architectural - 1 Position, C&S - 1 Position)

To assist Resident Engineer (RE) on daily site supervision works.

To ensure all site diaries and inspection records are kept and consolidated & filed weekly.

To supervise, monitor, coordinate and control all daily construction works to ensure all works executed are in accordance with drawings, specifications, construction plans, and procedures.

To be responsible for the supervision and monitoring of the execution architectural works in accordance with the contract and construction drawings.

To liaise with consultants and contractors to resolve any discrepancies in the consultant's drawings.

To conduct inspection and reporting of execution and installation completed by contractors.

To inspect the various tests to be carried out on site (e.g. water proofing, ponding tests, etc.).

To ensure that the quality of work and workmanship conform to the required standard.

To ensure that all materials delivered to site conform to the approved specifications.

To issue memos to contractors for non-compliance with the required Quality Standard, Construction drawings, and Specifications.

To identify potential problems and delays at the site, and report regularly to superiors on the progress of works.

To assist in organizing the authorities’ final inspection, testing and commissioning during Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) application.

Qualifications (Architectural)
  • Minimum Diploma in Architecture/Building Construction or related disciplines; or any other program accepted by the Board (LAM).

  • Registered with Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM) as Inspector of Works (IOW).

  • Min 3 years of experience in related field.

  • Preferably with experience in high rise residential projects or similar projects.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software – Excel, Word and PowerPoint;

  • Possess good analytical and communication skills in Bahasa Malaysia and English.

IOW (ARCHITECTURAL) – Roles & Responsibilities

IOW (C&S) – Responsibilities
  • To supervise and coordinate C&S work at site.

  • To ensure all works carried out by the contractors are within quality standards and contract specifications.

  • To liaise with Resident Engineer/Project Engineer and Consultants and report any discrepancies in the drawings, approved method statements and site construction problems.

  • To ensure the Contractors comply fully with the Health and Safety Policy and report any site accidents or near-miss accidents to the Resident Engineer/Project Engineer.

  • To prepare daily site reports and record of all tests conducted on site and submit to the Resident Engineer/Project Engineer.

  • Proper documentation of all activities on site.

  • Coordinate effectively with various contractors, consultants & authorities on all site matters.

  • Attend progress weekly site meetings with consultant and client.

  • Monitor contractor’s progress against the approval schedule.

Requirement
  • Candidate must possess at least a Diploma in Civil & Structural Engineering or equivalent qualification.

  • At least 3 - 5 year(s) of working experience as IOW, experience in high-rise construction will be an added advantage.

  • Able to perform site coordination independently with minimum supervision.

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
