Job summary

A leading healthcare provider in Petaling Jaya is looking for a Cook to prepare and produce meals for patients, ensuring adherence to standard recipes and maintaining a clean kitchen environment. The ideal candidate should have a Diploma in Culinary Arts and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a food service or hospital setting. This role requires knowledge of various cuisines and good communication skills in Bahasa Malaysia and English. The position involves working shifts, 6 days a week, in a challenging kitchen environment.

Qualifications

Job description

The cook is responsible for the overall preparation and cooking of patients’ food by adhering to the standard recipes and keeping their cooking equipment and areas clean and tidy. He/She is also responsible in supervising and coordinating the junior cook in food preparation.

Responsibilities
  1. Responsible in preparation and production of patients’ meals
    • Ensure all cooking activities are well coordinated between cooking staff when preparing meals
    • Prepare ingredients: clean and wash vegetables and meat, cut fish, meat and poultry into appropriate sizes and store neatly in freezers
    • Cook food items for patients following all standard recipes to ensure consistency
    • Distribute cooked food into the Bain Marie
    • Plan, prepare and cook food for special functions and meetings
    • Ensure that ingredient ordering is sufficient and that there is no wastage
    • Ensure food is prepared on time for serving
  2. Responsible in maintaining safety and sanitation of kitchen, utensils, cutleries and equipment
    • Ensure all cooking utensils are kept and stored properly for safety and space efficiency
    • Clean the cooking area daily
    • Maintain a safe working environment by obeying food safety guidelines and using appropriate food handling skills
Qualifications
  • Preferably possess a Diploma in Culinary Arts
  • Minimum qualification of SRP/PMR/SPM or any other equivalent qualification
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a food service/hospital setting
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Malay, Chinese and Indian cuisine
  • Ability to read and communicate verbally in Bahasa Malaysia and English
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to interact well with both internal and external customers
Working Conditions
  • Incumbent is required to work according to the allocated shift, 6 days a week
  • Able to withstand the working environment of a kitchen (e.g. heat) as incumbent will be required to work most hours in the kitchen
