About the Role
As an Engineering Manager – AirAsia Ride, you’ll lead cross-functional engineering squads responsible for building and scaling our ride-hailing platform. You oversee systems spanning mobile (React Native), backend (Node.js), real-time services, job assignments, payments, and operational tooling. This is a hands‑on leadership role combining people management, technical direction, and delivery ownership to ensure a seamless, reliable, and delightful experience for both riders and drivers.
Key Responsibilities
Team Management & Growth
- Manage, coach, and grow a team of software engineers across mobile, backend, and QA.
- Conduct career development, performance reviews, and growth planning.
- Foster a high‑performance engineering culture emphasizing delivery, reliability, and innovation.
Technical Oversight
- Provide architectural guidance for real‑time systems.
- Ensure best practices for coding, testing, observability, and secure development.
- Drive technical standards across React Native apps, backend services, APIs, and infra.
- Collaborate with platform, data, and infra teams to ensure scalability and cost efficiency.
Delivery & Execution
- Own sprint planning, backlog prioritization, and release management across squads.
- Monitor system SLAs—availability, latency, booking success rate, and error budgets.
- Ensure seamless app updates, backend deployments, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Partner with QA, SRE, Ops teams to uphold reliability and resilience of production systems.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product, Ops, and Design to deliver impactful features at speed.
- Provide technical input during product discovery, UX reviews, and growth initiatives.
- Partner with Operations and Business stakeholders to improve driver supply, rider demand, and marketplace efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2+ years in leadership (Tech Lead, EM, or equivalent).
- Experience leading cross‑functional teams delivering consumer‑grade apps or platforms at scale.
- Strong technical background in mobile (React Native) and/or backend (Node.js, Java, or equivalent).
- Proven track record in managing real‑time, transactional, or high‑availability systems.
- Familiar with CI/CD, monitoring, and cloud platforms (GCP/AWS).
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in ride‑hailing, mobility, logistics, or other two‑sided marketplaces.
- Understanding of microservices, event‑driven architectures, and data streaming.
- Knowledge of payment systems, fraud prevention, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with marketplace algorithms (dispatching, routing, pricing).
- Exposure to superapp ecosystems and modular service integration.
