Job Description

Group Head, Tax and Special Projects is responsible for leading all tax-related matters across MBSB Group, ensuring full compliance with tax regulations while optimising tax efficiency and governance. The role also oversees special projects under Group Finance, including E‑invoice, Sales & Service Tax (SST) and other finance projects.

Key Responsibilities
1. Tax Management

Formulate and implement the Group’s tax strategy in alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.

Oversee all direct and indirect tax matters for MBSB Group of Companies, including corporate income tax, SST, withholding tax (WHT), real property gains tax (RPGT), and other statutory taxes.

Review the tax computations, returns, and related submissions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely filing with the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD).

Review the Zakat computation, prepare and submit the Zakat computation to Pusat Pungutan Zakat (PPZ), and coordinate the approval process with the Shariah Division.

Ensure accurate tax accounting, including deferred tax computation and disclosure in accordance with MFRS requirements.

Monitor developments in tax legislation, assess potential impacts to the Group, and provide proactive advice to the Group Financial Controller.

Review the cost allocation across all entities within the Group and work closely with the Service Level Agreement (SLA) team to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Manage transfer pricing documentation and ensure compliance with LHDN guidelines and requirements.

Lead and manage tax audits, queries, and engagements with tax authorities, ensuring prompt and effective resolution of issues.

Lead tax planning and optimisation initiatives (e.g., capital allowance maximisation and other efficiency projects) to enhance the Group’s tax position.

Conduct periodic reviews of tax estimates to support cash flow planning and management.

Oversee the recovery of excess tax payments and follow up with relevant authorities as necessary.

Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory bodies on all tax-related matters.

2. Tax Advisory and Governance

Provide strategic advice on tax implications of new products, business transactions, corporate restructuring, and cross-entity arrangements.

Develop and maintain tax policies, procedures, and governance frameworks for the Group.

Strengthen tax risk management through continuous process improvement, documentation, and internal control enhancement.

Conduct training and awareness sessions to promote tax compliance culture across departments.

3. Special Projects

Lead or support key finance initiatives driven by Group Finance, including e‑Invoice implementation, SST-related projects, and system enhancement initiatives (e.g., ERP upgrades, tax reporting tools, and automation).

Drive project execution to ensure timely delivery in line with go‑live targets and regulatory compliance timelines.

Monitor project progress, proactively address issues, and coordinate resolution to avoid delays.

Collaborate with project consultants and relevant business divisions to assess financial, operational, and tax implications of new initiatives.

Provide project governance, tracking, and reporting to ensure alignment with Group Finance’s strategic objectives and overall key performance indicators.

4. Reporting and Stakeholder Management

Present periodic tax updates and status reports to the Group Financial Controller and Group Chief Financial Controller.

Lead and manage the Tax team to ensure timely and accurate delivery of all tax‑related matters, while providing guidance and support to enhance technical competency, efficiency, and compliance within the team.

Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and regulators on tax‑related matters.

Support the preparation of reports and papers for Management Committees and Board Committees as required.

Qualifications & Experience

Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; professional qualification (ACCA, CPA, ICAEW, or equivalent) required.

Minimum 5 to 7 years of relevant experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

Strong technical knowledge of Malaysian tax, transfer pricing and financial reporting standards.

Experience in banking or financial services preferred.
