Computer Science Teacher (GCSE & A Level)

We are seeking to appoint a qualified and committed Computer Science Teacher (GCSE & A Level) to join our team.

The job commencement date is in August 2026.

Role Purpose

To deliver high-quality Computer Science teaching at Key Stage 4 (IGCSE) and Key Stage 5 (A Level), primarily following CAIE specifications. The role focuses on strong academic outcomes, the development of computational thinking, and effective preparation for further study or related pathways. As with all teaching staff, the post holder contributes to the pastoral life of the school through positive relationships, guidance, and care for students.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver effective Computer Science lessons for IGCSE and A Level, aligned with CAIE specifications
  • Develop students’ understanding of core computing concepts, programming, algorithms, and problem-solving
  • Establish a focused, inclusive classroom environment with clear expectations for learning and behaviour
  • Adapt teaching approaches to support a range of abilities, including appropriate stretch and support

Assessment & Student Progress

  • Assess student work accurately in line with examination board requirements
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback that supports improvement and independence
  • Monitor attainment and progress, contributing to departmental and school reporting processes
  • Prepare students thoroughly for internal assessments and external examinations

Curriculum & Professional Contribution

  • Contribute to the planning, review, and ongoing development of the Computer Science curriculum
  • Support coherence and progression across IGCSE and A Level programmes
  • Share resources, ideas, and effective practice within the department
  • Engage in professional development and whole-school initiatives

Pastoral Contribution

  • Contribute to students’ wellbeing, guidance, and personal development through everyday teaching practice
  • Uphold the school’s values, policies, and expectations in support of a safe and respectful learning environment
Person Specification
Essential
  • A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field
  • Ability to teach Computer Science effectively at IGCSE and A Level
  • Secure subject knowledge, particularly in programming and computational thinking
  • High level of fluency in English and confidence teaching in an English-medium setting
  • Commitment to high academic standards and student progress
  • Strong communication, organisation, and collaboration skills
  • Willingness to contribute to the pastoral life of the school as part of the teaching role
Desirable
  • Experience teaching CAIE IGCSE and/or A Level Computer Science
  • Experience in an international or UK-curriculum school setting
  • Familiarity with student-led or project-based computing work
  • Interest in interdisciplinary or applied computing contexts
  • Experience with other examination boards (e.g. AQA)
