A logistics and transport management firm is seeking a Country Land Transport Manager in Malaysia, responsible for the strategic leadership of domestic transport operations. This role entails P&L accountability, operational excellence, and vendor management, fostering customer relationships while ensuring compliance with local regulations. Candidates should possess 8-12 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's Degree in Logistics or a related field. The Country Land Transport Manager is responsible for the end-to-end leadership, development, and performance of the national domestic land transport business. This role oversees P&L accountability, operational excellence, fleet and vendor management, customer service, compliance, and strategic growth initiatives. The manager acts as the country’s subject-matter expert (SME) for road transportation and drives transformation from traditional 2PL execution toward integrated, scalable 3PL/4PL transport solutions.
Own and deliver country transport P&L, including revenue growth, GP, EBIT and cost-to-serve optimization.
Develop annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and long-term plans aligned with regional strategy.
Monitor financial performance, conduct variance analysis, and implement corrective actions.
Grow and diversify customer portfolio (retail, FMCG, e-commerce, industrial, tech, cold chain, etc.).
Lead commercial discussions, pricing strategy, RFQ responses, and solution proposals.
Oversee daily domestic distribution, line-haul, last-mile, and other trucking operations.
Ensure service reliability, on-time performance, damage-free delivery, and cost efficiency.
Establish standardized operating procedures (SOPs), route optimization, and network planning.
Lead transport control tower / command center for dispatching, visibility, and exception management.
Collaborate with IL / IFF teams to deliver integrated multimodal solutions.
Manage owned fleets (if any): maintenance, utilization, cost efficiency, MRO, driver management.
Build, qualify, and govern subcontractor networks; ensure capacity reliability and competitive cost.
Conduct regular vendor audits, rate reviews, and performance scorecards (safety, compliance).
Develop a scalable hybrid capacity model: owned + leasing + subcontractor + strategic alliances.
Maintain strong relationships with key customers at operational and management levels.
Lead monthly/quarterly business reviews (MBR/QBRs) and service improvement initiatives.
Handle escalations, service failures, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
Ensure customer SLAs and KPIs are consistently met or exceeded.
Ensure all transport activities comply with local regulations (vehicle permits, driver licenses, HSE).
Lead road safety programs: driver training, fatigue management, speed control, accident prevention.
Implement risk management framework, high-value cargo, and special cargo.
Ensure quality certifications (ISO, TAPA, GDP, etc.) and regulatory audits are met.
Drive adoption of Transport Management System (TMS), routing tools, GPS/telematics, and visibility platforms.
Lead digital transformation initiatives to improve productivity, planning accuracy, and service visibility.
Ensure data integrity for billing, POD execution, driver logs, cost capture, and performance dashboards.
Lead, coach, and develop transport teams including planners, dispatchers, supervisors, and drivers.
Build a performance-driven culture with clear KPIs, accountability, and continuous improvement mindset.
Work with HR on recruitment, retention, training, and succession planning.
Promote cross-functional collaboration and break silos between operations, commercial, finance, and warehouse teams.
Identify market opportunities in high-growth segments: e.g. E-commerce, Automotive/EV, Cold chain, Retail & FMCG, DG / temperature-controlled transport, High-tech, Industrial, etc.
Develop new products: express trucking, milk-run, consolidation, vendor-managed transport, control tower.
Support M&A and partnerships to scale national and regional network.
Lead continuous improvement projects (Kaizen, Lean, Green Logistics, ESG initiatives).
Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or Business.
8–12 years’ experience in domestic transport, trucking, or supply chain operations.
Strong background in 2PL/3PL/4PL operations and subcontractor management.
Experience in network planning, TMS, route optimization, and digital transport tools.
