Job description
Associate Professor, Biomedical Science (Digital Health / Bioinformatics)
  • Deliver teaching and related duties, including the design, preparation, and development of teaching materials; conduct lectures, tutorials, and practicals; provide consultation to students; invigilation; marking and assessment.
  • Contribute actively to programme and curriculum development in biomedical science, bioinformatics, and digital health, with integration of cutting‑edge technologies into teaching.
  • Innovate and implement teaching strategies that leverage bioinformatics platforms, digital health applications, and AI‑enabled tools to enhance student learning.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects in areas such as genomics, multi‑omics, computational biology, and digital health innovations.
  • Promote high standards of teaching, incorporating digital pedagogies and bioinformatics‑driven learning approaches.
Research
  • Lead and participate in scholarly activities, including bioinformatics and digital health‑focused research, conference presentations, and publications in high‑impact indexed journals.
  • Secure competitive research grants, particularly in digital health technologies, biomedical data science, bioinformatics applications in healthcare, and translational biomedical research.
  • Achieve the required research performance outcomes for Associate Professor appointment.
  • Develop multidisciplinary collaborations with healthcare providers, tech industry partners, and international institutions to drive impactful research in bioinformatics and digital health.
Administration and Other Activities
  • Contribute to departmental, school, and faculty administration, including participation in committees, programme review, and quality assurance.
  • Provide academic leadership and mentorship in bioinformatics and digital health capacity‑building.
  • Establish and strengthen linkages with external organisations, professional societies, and industry to foster collaborative initiatives in biomedical science and digital health.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Possess a PhD in Biomedical Science, Bioinformatics, Digital Health, or closely related fields from a recognised university.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant teaching and/or industry experience, with evidence of applying bioinformatics or digital health approaches in academic or professional settings.
  • Strong publication record with at least 5–10 indexed (ISI/SCOPUS) journal articles in the last 5 years, preferably in bioinformatics, computational biology, or digital health.
  • Secured research grant(s) as Principal Investigator, with a cumulative value of RM150,000–RM200,000, in areas aligned to bioinformatics and digital health.
  • Successfully supervised and graduated at least two (2) PhD students.
  • Minimum H‑index of 8 (Scopus).
  • Proven experience in curriculum development and teaching methodologies, including the integration of digital tools, data science approaches, and health informatics platforms in learning.
  • Demonstrated track record of bioinformatics/digital health research projects, with outputs such as high‑impact publications, patents, software, platforms, or healthcare applications.
  • Strong skills in academic leadership, mentoring, and professional communication.
