Overview

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (DS13) - Department of Accounting, Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia – Gombak, Selangor.

Post: Assistant Professor  |  Grade: DS13  |  Status of Appointment: Permanent (Malaysian only)  |  Basic salary: RM6,210.00 to RM14,370.00 (depends on experience)  |  Area of specialization: Islamic Accounting  |  Department: Department of Accounting  |  Kulliyyah: Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences  |  Location: Gombak

Scope

The officer shall be a member of the staff of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department to which he is assigned by IIUM and shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties and such other obligations as are normally required of an academic staff member of IIUM.

The officer should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to colleagues and students as part and parcel of duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM.

The officer shall attend meetings of IIUM Authorities, Boards and Committees to which he, as an academic staff member, may be appointed as a member by virtue of the IIUM Constitution or any Statutes or Acts, or of any administrative actions of the Rector, Dean or Head of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department.

The officer is also expected to participate in the general life of the IIUM community.

To advise and guide students in relation to their character, behaviour and moral conduct. In short, he is not only a teacher (Mu’allim), a scholar ('Alim) but also a moral educator (Murabbi).

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching zakat accounting and accounting courses related to Islamic financial institutions to students from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Teaching and supervising UG and PG students in English
  • Working harmoniously with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials
  • Developing curricula and course material that can be used across a number of platforms in line with IIUM’s ‘Sejahtera Academic Framework’ (SAF) and the Ministry of Higher Education’s framework
  • Work collaboratively on programme accreditation and related matters
  • Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base
  • Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution
  • Providing support to students and other colleagues
  • Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field
  • Setting and grading assignments, tests, and exams
  • Conducting research, and writing papers, journal articles, books and obtaining grants
  • Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events in and outside of the institution
Minimum Qualifications
  • Candidate must be Malaysian
  • Area of specialization: Islamic Accounting
  • PhD in Accounting or similar field (preferably from a university recognized by the JPA/Public Service Department)
  • Teaching/publications/research experience would be a bonus
  • English (Band 6 IELTS or equivalent)
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent skills in analytical, software and instructional technology
  • Published work and a good background in research would be advantageous

Language Qualifications

All candidates must have obtained: a) Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).

b) IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4. Candidate without any of these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
