Assistant General Counsel, APAC

Department: Legal - Legal Counsel

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Reporting To: General Counsel - Asia Pacific & China

Compensation: RM8,000 - RM18,000 / month

Description

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE

To assist General Counsel-Asia Pac in legal / contract advice and general legal support to Glory Global Solutions Asia Pac offices working with internal and external lawyers and managing contract relationships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contracts – Managing drafting, evaluation, negotiation through to execution including Non Disclosure Agreements, Sales / Purchasing Agreements, Sub‑contracts, review of customer proposed terms and conditions, some translation as required and Distribution Agreements.
  • Serves as the legal point of contact for internal and external customers on contractual matters. Act as contractual “middleman” between company employees and customers, ensuring timely review and approval / reconciliation of variations.
  • On all standard and nonstandard contracts, provide redlined recommendations and often negotiate directly with customer attorneys or purchasing staff until consensus has been reached.
  • Maintain contractual records and documentation such as receipt and control of all contract correspondence, customer contact information sheets, contractual changes, status reports and other documents for all projects.
  • Training managers and other employees in contracting practices and procedures, group policies and initiatives.
  • Ensure legal compliance in areas including anti-corruption, competition and in line with Group standards.
  • Monitor compliance by company employees with established procedures. Identify areas of recurrent pressure.
  • Work with Finance to ensure adherence to broader finance and risk requirements such as revenue recognition, pricing and discounting policies, export controls etc.
  • Support ASIA‑PAC Management / Marketing to ensure company products and services are offered with appropriate, competitive terms and conditions.
  • Ensure that signed contracts are communicated to all relevant parties to provide contract visibility and awareness, interpretation to support implementation.
  • Handle on‑going issue and change management.
  • Monitor transaction compliance (milestones, deliverables, invoicing etc.).
  • Ensure contract close‑out, extension or renewal.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • 3-4 years’ experience from major firms / brands and relevant company experience.
  • Have a broad understanding of all aspects of commercial law, and international experience.
  • Licensed to practice in India or other countries.
  • Must have good spoken and written English as a minimum – Japanese would be useful but not required.
  • India bar admission.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong character able to defend contractual positioning.
  • Have excellent negotiation skills.
  • Have good attention to detail and proven drafting ability.
  • Confident and articulate.
  • Strong commercial instincts and the ability to work within a competitively challenging environment.
  • Able to develop solutions to complex legal questions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver results.
  • Highly self‑motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Collaborative and pro‑active in style.
