Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsibilities

• Provide good quality personalised care in accordance with agreed local and national standards
• Take samples from patients for testing or dispatching e.g.: Urine, sputum, faeces, MRSA swabs, blood sugars (Bloods when competent)
• Assist patients to meet nutritional needs in line with their individual care plan
• Undertake clinical duties relevant to clinical area following achievement of competencies
• Assist to maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines
• Assist in maintaining standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care
• Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals
• Contribute to maintaining safe, clean, and productive care environment, compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness
• Maintain and develop own competence
• Actively try to resolve issues and complaints at local level and then report the outcome to line manager
• Record keeping

Qualifications

Maths & English GCSE grade C or above or Functional Skills Level 2 AND NVQ Level 2 in Health care is essential for this role. Please ensure you have the correct qualifications and will be able to provide evidence if you are successful.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

• GCSE Maths & English grade C or above / Grade 4 - 9 OR Functional/Key skills level 2 numeracy and Functional/Key Skills level 2 literacy
• NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care (must include practical work-based assessments and not an online only qualification) OR Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Basic Nursing Care Standard certificate (BNCS) OR Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Level 2 internal training programme in care
• Must undertake and complete the internal level 3 development pathway, enrolling onto the next available programme

Desirable criteria

• Level 3 QCF diploma in healthcare / NVQ level 3

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

• Previous experience of working in an acute health care or related setting delivering direct nursing care
• Understanding of health and safety issues within healthcare
• Understanding of concept and application of confidentiality
• Understanding of the role of a senior HCA
