Overview

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Process Engineer to join our Haleon Consumer Healthcare Supply Chain (SC) team. This role would be suitable for an experienced Process Engineer or someone who is early in their career seeking further experience and progression.

The team supports the development of leading global Power Brands in Oral Healthcare. This innovative and entrepreneurial team is a science-driven centre of excellence and uses state-of-the-art facilities and leading-edge technologies to stay at the forefront of new product research and development.

This role will mainly work within the Supply Chain Oral Health Platform group and offers exposure to a variety of semi-solid and liquid dose forms and the opportunity to work with a diverse multi-functional team from marketers and research scientists, to the manufacturing group. This enables a wide breadth of exposure and understanding of the commercial business to be acquired. The role will require travel to European and Global sites.

The business has a fast-paced innovation focus with state-of-the-art pilot plants, and significant ongoing investment in process analytical technologies, in-line dosing, and continuous processing. You will be responsible for the process development, scale-up, and technology transfer of New Product Introductions/Maintenance projects for semi-solid and liquid Oral Care products within the Power Brand portfolio.

Job Purpose

The role will mainly work in the Oral Health team supporting Oral Health Power Brands but may also support other Global Power Brands within the Haleon portfolio.

You will engage in process development at early stages, working with R&D teams throughout product development, leading to the scale up and development of stable products and robust commercial scale manufacturing processes.

In addition, you will work with de-risking, cost saving and strategic growth projects providing the technical expertise to carry out the activities within our network. You will have active participation on Value Engineering projects, identifying and working with projects to improve yield, efficiency and lower costs as well as implementing new sustainable projects to support the Haleon strategy for Healthy planet, healthy people. You will also develop partnerships to work with development scientist team at reformulation and process robustness projects for current commercial products.

Other key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide technical support to Haleon and CMO (Contact Manufacturing Organisations) Toothpaste/mouthwash supply sites to solve complex technical issues on sharing learning approach to site technical independency.
  • Provide technical expertise for existing and NPI (New Product Introductions) Toothpaste/Mouthwash products supporting Oral Health R&D for roll outs to Haleon and CMO manufacturing sites.
  • Participate in governance forums such as Product Technical Review Teams (PTRT),Technical Review Board (TRB) for Oral Health and Consumer Technical Board.
  • Support the technical transfers of NPIs for roll out sites
  • Lead or participate in Technical Risk Assessments (TRA) and Product Strategy Control (PCS) related to NPIs, investigations or changes associated with current products.
  • Manage, analyse and identify trends in data as part of Continued Process Verification (CPV) to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support sites as necessary in Root Cause Analysis Investigation as part of site deviation management (manufacturing issues, product release performance and/or customer complaints).
  • Work with Material Science team and procurement teams on the interpretation of data to assess new alternative raw material suppliers.
  • Create documents including MMI (Master Manufacturing Instruction), Change Controls, Technical Rationales, Evaluation Protocols/Reports, Investigation Reports.
  • Provide technical support and review of Regulatory Documents.

Basic Qualifications:

You will possess a BSc/BEng or equivalent level of qualification within Pharmaceutical Science/Process or Manufacturing Engineering/Chemical Engineering. In addition, you should also possess:

  • Awareness of semi-solids and liquid formulations.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment for semi-solid and liquid formulations.
  • Knowledge of scientific methods, DoE and QdB.
  • Technical writing skills for scientific documents are required as is demonstrated skill in problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Knowledgeable in cGMP’s and general regulatory requirements.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experienced with product dose forms and investigational techniques and tools for process investigations and Technical Risk Assessment.
  • Knowledgeable in the principles of process validation.
  • Statistical knowledge and use of Statistica.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Desirable proficiency using internal Haleon systems
