Job description
Eligibility Criteria

Master Degree or equivalent. English Language requirements: If applicable – IELTS 6.5 overall (with a score of at least 5.5 in each individual component) or an equivalent recognised by Swansea University. Candidates must have attained, or be expected to attain, a first‑class honours degree and/or a distinction at master's level. Applicants must be able to begin their course of study in October 2026; deferral to another enrolment window is not permissible.

  • Where applicants have multiple master's degrees, a distinction must be held in the degree that is most relevant to the intended PhD study.
  • If you are currently studying for a master's level qualification, the award must take place prior to enrolment and in good time to allow visa application and travel.
  • Non‑UK degrees can be assessed via the Swansea University degree comparisons to determine eligibility.

Projects aim to tackle grand global challenges such as energy, health and the environment, offering many interdisciplinary opportunities. The School is pleased to welcome applications for support with CSC Scholarships, particularly in the areas listed above. Project supervisors will be assessed for supervisory capacity at the short‑listing stage of the recruitment process.

This scholarship covers the full cost of tuition fees. Additionally, research expenses of up to £1,000 per year will also be available.

Funding Restrictions

Due to funding restrictions, this scholarship is, at this time, open solely to applicants who hold Chinese National Status.

International Students

Fully funded if the applicant is successful in being offered a SUIPRES Scholarship as outlined below. Swansea University offers the SUIPRES Scholarship to overseas PhD and Professional Doctorate applicants eligible for the international rate of tuition fees who can demonstrate excellence in academic achievement. The SUIPRES Scholarship covers the difference between the International and the Home tuition fee for the duration of the PhD/Professional Doctorate programme. Successful candidates will be charged fees aligned to the UK rate per year. The scholarship will be offset against your tuition fee liability. All International applications will be considered for a SUIPRES Scholarship and you will be informed whether a SUIPRES Scholarship will be offered within your offer letter.
