Job summary

A prestigious university in the UK is seeking a self-motivated researcher for the Faraday Institution funded SOLBAT and/or LiSTAR projects. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Materials Science or Chemistry and extensive experience in research management, particularly in solid-state batteries. Responsibilities include managing research activities, presenting findings, and collaborating with the research group. This is a full-time fixed-term position based in Oxford, with potential for extension based on future funding.

Job description

You should have significant experience in managing your own academic research and administrative activities along with excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings.

We are seeking a well organised and self‑motivated researcher to work on the Faraday Institution funded SOLBAT and/or LiSTAR projects, reporting to Prof. Mauro Pasta. Applicants must hold PhD/DPhil in Materials Science or Chemistry (or be close to completion), together with relevant experience in the field of solid‑state batteries, in addition to a first‑class bachelor or master’s degree in Materials Science or Chemistry and have significant expertise in the following area:

  • Synthesis and characterisation of air‑sensitive materials, including:
  • sulphide‑based ionic conductors;
  • structural characterisation using lab‑based and synchrotron‑based x‑ray techniques;
  • solid‑state NMR
  • Department of Materials, Rex Richards Building, Oxford
  • This full‑time fixed‑term post is available until 31 March 2027 and is based at the Department of Materials, Rex Richards Building, South Parks Road, Oxford. There is a possibility that the post may be extended for up to three depending on future project funding.
