Job Description

To provide relational support to children, alongside their families, who are displaying behaviours that place themselves or others at risk of harm, or in conflict with the law.

To take a lead role or work in partnership with other services to complete assessments of need, risk and create realistic and achievable actions plans with children and their families.

Deliver a responsive service to children and their families using a variety of models as deemed suitable.

Responsibilities

Assume the day-to-day responsibility for managing a caseload which entails working directly with children, their families, other organisations and agencies.

Engage in appropriate supervision and undertake suitable training relevant with the role.

Undertake relevant administrative tasks associated with the role.

Assist in the development and delivery of group work.

Work collaboratively with Youth Justice team members, other social work teams and partner agencies.

The Individual

Experience of working with children and their families, in particular where there is a risk of harm to self or others or coming into conflict with the law.

Knowledge of child protection.

Understanding of relevant legislation and policy in relation to Youth Justice.

Educated to standard grade or equivalent in English.

HNC Social Care / SVQ 3.

A willingness to undertake training.

Willingness to register with SSSC.

Able to communicate well verbally and in writing.

An ability to work alone without close supervision.

Willingness to learn and take on board advice and guidance.

Proficient IT skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Word and Outlook.

Good organisational and time management skills.

Experience of completing assessments and understanding of risk.

Understanding of child development.

Capacity to establish productive working relationships with children, families and professional staff.

Calm, patient and non-judgemental attitude.

The capacity to handle stressful situations.

Capacity to deal with conflicting demands.

Flexible working hours to meet the needs and demands of the service.

You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car therefore a full driving licence is required.

This post is considered to be a ‘Regulated Role’ under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. Under the Act it is a legal requirement for an individual undertaking a regulated role with children or protected adults to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.

Therefore the successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to any formal offer of employment being made by Moray Council.

Starting salary: £34,778.25

36.25 hours per week
