We are looking to welcome a qualified dispenser into our busy practice, who will play a full and active role as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities of the role:
- Process all relevant prescriptions and repeat prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the good practice principles of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme;
- Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions, to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor;
- Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient;
- Process hospital letters;
- Process dossette boxes;
- Manage ordering stock and stock control;
- Answer and deal with dispensary phone enquiries;
- Monitor patients exemption status;
- Sort and dispose of unwanted/returned medication;
- Any other duties to assist in the smooth day-to-day running of the dispensary and surgery as directed by the dispensary or practice manager.

Person Specification
Experience
Essential
- At least a Diploma Level 2/3 Dispensary or equivalent Pharmacy Services qualification;
- At least 2 years dispensary and pharmacy experience;
- Excellent clinical and medication knowledge;
- Understanding and experience of working as a dispenser in a GP practice setting;
- The commitment to continue learning new clinical skills and developing your career;
- The confidence to work as part of a busy GP multi-disciplinary practice team and to use your own initiative in decision-making;
- The ability to be adaptable and flexible in your approach;
- Excellent patient-facing interpersonal communication skills.
