Job summary

A regional healthcare trust is seeking Consultant Anaesthetists to support the Department of Anaesthesia at King’s Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield. This full-time role includes assisting in the provision of effective anaesthetic services, participation in out-of-hours responsibilities, and supervision of junior staff. Job description
Position Overview

We are offering a recruitment and retention premium of 50% paid upon commencement (details are discussed with each applicant). This role is for Consultant Anaesthetists to support the Department of Anaesthesia at King’s Mill Hospital, with duties at a second hospital in Newark for elective theatre sessions. The position is full‑time, but part‑time or job‑share applicants are encouraged; adjustments will be made on a personal basis.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the provision and development of a safe, effective, and efficient anaesthetic service, supporting the Trust’s aim to provide the best possible care.
  • Out‑of‑hours responsibilities, including participation in the consultant on‑call rota.
  • Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.
  • Assist in the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff, observing local employment and human resource policies and procedures.
  • Organise and participate in teaching, examination and accreditation duties for undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally.
  • Actively participate in medical audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and in continuing professional development.
  • Implement audit and research findings as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical and organisational protocols.
  • Review and develop policies for clinical practice and effectiveness.
  • Participate in the strategic planning for the service.
Team & Department

The department currently has a substantive consultant establishment of twenty‑five, up to 20 Specialist/SAS/Clinical Fellow grade Anaesthetists, and a trainee establishment consisting of 9 CTs, 7 ST3+ rotating from the East Midlands School of Anaesthesia, plus Foundation Year doctors.

We manage our service with open discussion, listening to and respecting everyone’s views. The clinical speciality leads facilitate change and improvements in the service, supported by the leadership team. Active participation in service development, departmental management, clinical governance & education is required.

The Anaesthetic Department is actively pursuing National Accreditation with The Royal College of Anaesthetists, expected within the next two years. In 2019 the department received a high commendation at the BMJ awards for Perioperative Team of the Year; shortlisted in 2018 & 2019 for HJS value & safety awards for various projects.
