You must be, or about to be, a technician with NVQ3 level training. Applications are welcome from all sectors of pharmacy practice, including community, primary care, industry and academia; however, hospital experience is desirable. All eligible candidates will be offered the ACPT course. This is a full‑time post and is not subject to NHS AFC terms and conditions. Informal enquiries about the post are very welcome.
Key Responsibilities
- Engender a “customer first” culture across the organisation, ensuring high standards of professional customer service are delivered at all times within the pharmacy.
- Build strong relationships with customers to understand their needs and deliver customer satisfaction.
- Liaise with other healthcare professionals to assist in the continuity of patient care across primary and secondary sectors.
- Support the pharmacist to conduct regular customer and stakeholder surveys to measure satisfaction.
- Work with the pharmacist on implementing customer service improvement plans in conjunction with the pharmacy team.
- Assist in dealing with customer complaints promptly and efficiently in line with the company complaints procedure.
- Provide advice on leading a healthy lifestyle.
- Work under the supervision of a pharmacist, respond to symptoms described by customers, recommend suitable products and advise on their correct use, including sales of OTC and pharmacy‑only medicines.
- Deliver a high‑quality and comprehensive medicines counselling service to patients on all aspects of their pharmaceutical care, including specialist and unlicensed drugs.
- Overcome communication barriers through the use of interpreters or other forms of communication.
- Prepare labels using the pharmacy computer system and correctly assemble prescriptions, ensuring each item is accurately dispensed and correctly packaged.
- Organise the timely supply of out‑of‑stock medication, prioritise and delegate to other pharmacy team members when necessary.
- Communicate any delays in supply to the appropriate person.
- Counsel patients on the use of dispensed medications, offering advice and answering any queries.
- Provide information and advice to nursing and medical staff on all aspects of drug usage and availability.
- Receive deliveries, check delivery accuracy, query discrepancies and damaged stock.
- Securely store stock, ensure rotation, perform daily stock counts and manage slow‑moving, expiring or over‑stock holding.
- Follow established procedures, maintain all relevant records according to departmental and legal requirements.
- Order stock from supplies and manufacturers in accordance with ordering procedures.
- Dispense clinical trials, private patient prescriptions and controlled drugs.
- Be accountable for own professional actions.
- Perform other relevant duties as requested by senior pharmacy members.
- Participate in the weekend and bank holiday service rosters.
- Assist senior technicians in the outpatients dispensary.
- Ensure the hospital formulary is adhered to and provide advice and solutions when non‑formulary/unlicensed drugs are prescribed.
