As a Teacher of Design Technology, your role will extend beyond delivering content — you will help students develop resilience, critical thinking, and technical craftsmanship while gaining confidence in applying design solutions to everyday challenges. Key responsibilities include:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver a high‑quality DT curriculum across Key Stages (KS3–KS4 and KS5 if applicable), specialising in product design, resistant materials, graphics, or engineering.
  • Practical Development: Lead safe and engaging workshops that allow students to experiment with a range of tools, equipment, and modern technology such as CAD/CAM.
  • Assessment & Feedback: Track and evaluate student progress through design portfolios, prototypes, written assessments, and participation, ensuring learners achieve their full potential.
  • Student Engagement: Inspire students by showcasing the importance of design in everyday life, linking learning to modern industries including architecture, engineering, and manufacturing.
  • Classroom & Workshop Management: Maintain a safe, organised, and well‑resourced environment that supports practical learning and responsible use of machinery and materials.
  • Professional Growth: Take part in CPD and keep up to date with the latest technological advancements and DT education practices.
The successful Design Technology Teacher will have:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or equivalent – PGCE/BEd/Relevant DT Degree).
  • Experience teaching Design Technology at secondary level (A‑Level desirable).
  • Strong technical expertise and confidence using workshop tools, machinery, and design software.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate students of varying abilities.
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to supporting the wider department.
  • DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

  • Commitment to Safeguarding: Ethical recruitment dedicated to student well‑being.
  • Career Development: Access to ongoing CPD to support your professional growth.
  • Dedicated Consultant: Personal support to help you secure the right role with competitive pay.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks; including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
