Job Title: SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Teacher) Teaching Assistants
Location: Wakefield
Pay rate: Up to £110 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: January 2026
Contract type: Day-to-day/ Long-term, Full-time/ Part-time

Are you patient, empathetic, and enthusiastic about helping students develop social, emotional, and mental skills?

GSL Education are appointing SEMH Teaching Assistants to schools throughout Wakefield, providing hands‑on support to pupils who need extra guidance to manage their emotions and achieve their learning potential.

As an SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Teacher) Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with individual students or small groups to implement strategies that foster resilience, confidence, and positive behaviour.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Support students with SEMH needs in classroom and small‑group settings.
  • Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning and wellbeing activities.
  • Encourage emotional regulation, social skills, and self‑confidence.
  • Help implement behaviour management and positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Monitor and provide feedback on student progress to teaching staff.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Requirements of SEMH Teaching Assistants:
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs.
  • Strong communication, patience, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to the individual needs of each student.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • A professional and responsible approach to safeguarding and wellbeing.
