A governmental agency in the UK is seeking a workshop supervisor to oversee prisoners, enhancing their employment prospects through specialized training. The role involves evaluating skills, maintaining security, and delivering quality training to support rehabilitation efforts. Candidates should possess a Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience. The position requires flexibility with unsocial hours and offers additional pay for such shifts. The job holder will provide supervision, knowledge and skills to prisoners in a specialist workshop so they can improve their employment prospects on release, with the aim of reducing reoffending. The role ensures that all services are delivered to a high standard while maintaining security and control at all times. The job holder may teach prisoners to achieve nationally recognised qualifications and may be supported by external organisations such as local colleges.
The role requires regular unsocial hours as part of the shift commitment. Unsocial hours are those outside 07:00–19:00 hrs Monday to Friday, including evenings, nights, weekends and bank/public holidays. A 17 % (later 20 %) supplement is paid in addition to basic pay.
All candidates are subject to security and identity checks prior to taking up the post. All external candidates are subject to a 6‑month probation period; internal candidates are subject to probation if not already served one within HMPPS.
