We are offering an opportunity for a post‑CCT gastroenterologist, to pursue advanced training in all aspects of the management of patients with complex IBD in our tertiary referral unit. The IBD fellowship at Leeds has been endorsed by the BSG for post‑CCT training.
This post will commence in May 2026 and is a fixed term for 12 months.
The successful candidate will join our large, enthusiastic and dedicated IBD team and enhance their skills and experience in the care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease. They will also have the opportunity to develop related endoscopic techniques in our modern endoscopy departments, which have recently been refurbished with state‑of‑the‑art equipment. Expertise within the wider department encompasses inflammatory bowel disease, advanced endoscopy, pancreaticobiliary medicine, small bowel disease, nutrition and academic research. The post is not accredited for training.
Candidates must be registered with the GMC and hold a licence to practice by the intended start date. In addition, there will be a requirement to provide inpatient ward cover for GIM. These duties will involve daily morning ward round duties for 7 consecutive days on a 1:10 rotational basis. There will be no additional out‑of‑hours on‑call commitment, and these duties will attract an uplift in salary to consultant‑equivalent rates of pay.
The post holder will contribute to 4 clinics per week (2 IBD clinics, 1 joint surgical IBD clinic with general gastroenterology on alternate weeks, 1 flare clinic). The remaining sessions include preparation for and participation in the IBD MDT, working with the IBD nurses on urgent queries, supernumerary attendance at other specialist IBD clinics (e.g. the pregnancy clinic), time to undertake project work and/or training in endoscopic techniques such as chromoendoscopy, pouchoscopy and EMR – this will depend on the requirements and experience of the post‑holder.
