Job description

In this post as a medical retina clinical and research fellow in Moorfields Eye Hospital, you will spend half your time in the medical retina, uveitis and genetics clinics managing complex cases under the guidance and tutelage of senior consultants and the other half within the R&D department working within the clinical research facility as an investigator in numerous clinical trials.

  • The applicant should have completed their ophthalmology training locally and is seeking fellowship training in medical retina.
  • Ability to manage common medical retina pathology with experience in retinal laser treatment and intravitreal injection is required.
  • Applicants are required to be registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practice.
  • Set up and run clinical trials in medical retina that may include genetic eye diseases, thyroid eye disease, optic nerve diseases and paediatric eye conditions.
  • Familiarise with retinal vascular disease imaging interpretation and how management correlates with imaging characteristics.
  • Participate in writing manuscripts.
  • Identifying and recruiting patients to trials, delivery of trials and set up and initiate clinical studies.
  • Some of the clinical sessions (at least once a week) may take place in the Moorfields Satellite sites based outside City Road.
  • Cataract surgery is not part of the Medical Retina fellowship-training programme; however there may infrequently be opportunities to operate during the 12-month period.
  • Attendance at regular MR Fellows Teaching Sessions (typically 6, 1‑hour sessions per week, including Fluorescein Angiography Meeting, Electrophysiology Teaching, Uveitis Teaching and Clinical / Research Tutorials).
