Our Administration Officers (AO) play a critical role, providing excellent telephony and administrative support to court users, judiciary, mediators and management.

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is an agency of the Ministry of Justice and is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Our roles support our Court users and colleagues within HMCTS, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice. Your role

The Mediation Administration team is responsible for managing claims referred to the service, supporting court users with concerns or reasonable adjustments, and efficiently overseeing mediation diary scheduling. The team also ensures claims progress smoothly and in line with service objectives.

This is a user-facing administrative role that focuses on delivering an inclusive and accessible mediation and conciliation service for small claims (valued under £10,000).

You will correspond with parties via email, telephone, and webchat, helping court users navigate the process and ensuring appointments are scheduled and updated promptly following their mediation appointment.

About you

You should have, or be willing to develop, jurisdiction knowledge using available guidance and procedures. Strong emotional intelligence and clear communication skills are essential to understand callers’ needs, explain complex information simply, and provide excellent service within business parameters. You will also be expected to meet set targets with accuracy and efficiency.

Your skills and experience

With a friendly and approachable manner, you’ll have good written and verbal communication skills with a desire to deliver proactive and effective support to customers. You’ll have great attention to detail, able to enter information into our database accurately and efficiently, and able and adapt to using various software packages. You’ll enjoy organising your time, prioritising efficiently and multi-tasking in a busy environment.

These operational roles are customer facing, requiring successful applicants to be office based to provide HMCTS services to the public.

Non-contractual hybrid working may be available. Hybrid working arrangements will be determined by the business and will only be available when it has been established that delivering the service from home can be done effectively. We cannot facilitate requests for a particular work from home/working in the office schedule.

Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week.

HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns, where they meet the demands of the role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment. All applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJ’s Flexible Working policy. Due to business needs, we will not be able to accept part time hours of less than 30 hours per week or a non-working day of a Monday or Friday.

Occasional travel to other courts

For this post, occasional travel to other National Services may be required.

Skilled Worker Visa

From 22 July 2025, the Government increased the salary threshold and skills level for Skilled Worker visas. This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for sponsorship in accordance with the current immigration rules if you looking to apply for a Skilled Worker Visa for the first time.

The Department cannot consider sponsoring you for this role unless you have held a Skilled Worker visa continuously since before 22 July 2025. If you have held a Skilled Worker visa continuously, please raise this during your vetting checks and eligibility will be assessed in accordance with the immigration rules and transitional provisions in place.
