The Department of East Asian Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position in Chinese language. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.

• Teach Chinese language at all levels in a degree-granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures.
• Contribute to language programs and departmental strengths; collaborate with colleagues to enhance the Chinese language program and related courses.
• Maintain familiarity with North American pedagogical approaches and engage in pedagogical inquiry and teaching-related scholarly activities.
• Prepare and deliver courses, including online materials, and participate in service and program development as part of a teaching stream role.

• PhD by appointment or shortly thereafter, or Master’s degree with at least 5 years of teaching experience in Chinese language, linguistics, applied linguistics, language pedagogy, or related area.
• Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and experience teaching Chinese language at all levels in a degree-granting program.
• Experience with curriculum development, online material/lecture development, and knowledge of North American pedagogical approaches.
• Demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry and teaching-related scholarly activities.
• Evidence of teaching excellence can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards, conference presentations, teaching dossiers, sample syllabi, course materials, teaching evaluations, teaching demonstrations and strong reference letters.

• Applicants must submit a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae, and a complete teaching dossier including sample syllabi and course materials, teaching evaluations, a link to a teaching demonstration video, and a teaching statement that includes general teaching philosophy and approaches to teaching students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
