Employer and Community Engagement Coordinator, Administration Lead, Career Services

Primary Purpose: Career Services empowers students to achieve career success by leading, guiding, and partnering to advance career education at the University of Saskatchewan. This position provides supervision and support to the administration team and strategic leadership in employer relations and community engagement. Responsibilities include increasing diversity of partnering and recruiting organizations, expanding recruitment activities, and facilitating quality career opportunities for USask students and alumni. The incumbent will develop and cultivate professional collaborative relationships, assess stakeholder needs, recommend and facilitate access to recruitment solutions, and lead the development and implementation of events, programming, and resources that support USask students in accessing opportunities and creating connections. Additionally, the incumbent will contribute to advancing career education institutionally, analyzing partner needs, and developing, connecting, and contributing to projects and initiatives in these areas.

This position reports to the Director, Career Services. The Administrative Team (CUPE) reports to this position. The role is based out of the Saskatoon campus and may be eligible for hybrid work under the terms of USask’s Alternative Workspace Guidelines.

Nature of Work: The Employer and Community Engagement Coordinator exercises a high level of discretionary decision‑making and judgment. The role requires effectively supporting and supervising the administrative team and advancing projects in alignment with stakeholder and institutional goals. The position requires establishing and maintaining professional relationships with a wide stakeholder group, collaborating across the institution, and balancing administrative priorities with employer and community interests. The work is complex, requiring creativity, close attention to detail, and quality, and a focus on a high‑quality user experience. Some travel, evening, and weekend work may be required.

Accountabilities

Employer and Community Relations (40%)

  • Knowledge – Develop a strong practical and theoretical knowledge of recruitment trends, labour market needs, and labour‑related issues and their impact on hiring USask students and alumni.
  • Business Development Strategy – Lead the development and implementation of a strategy to increase the diversity of private, public, and non‑profit sectors engaging with and recruiting USask students and alumni.
  • Build and sustain quality relationships – Create, strengthen, and cultivate employer and community relationships and provide support to continually improve the relationship and the quality of experience.
  • Consultation – Consult with employer and community partners to understand their business, assess their needs, and recommend recruitment options, student engagement strategies, and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Communication/Education – Inform and educate current and potential employers about the quality of USask programs, the knowledge, skills, and attributes our graduates possess, and the contributions they can make.
  • Impact Measurement – Measure the success of engagement and recruitment efforts to assess and improve quality, customer experience, participation, strategy, and learning outcomes.
  • Networking – Participate actively in local, provincial, national, and international organizations, chambers of commerce, professional associations, and committees.
  • Partnership, learning and collaboration – Seek and create opportunities to collaborate externally with other career services and post‑secondary institutions to explore innovative strategies and expand career opportunities for students.

Institutional Collaboration and Communications (30%)

  • Build and sustain quality relationships – Develop and facilitate strong working relationships within the university community.
  • Collaboration – Work with college and unit partners focusing on underserved populations, graduate students, Indigenous students, international students, and those facing barriers to employment.
  • Supporting Experiential Learning – Work closely with the Experiential Learning Coordinators and the EL Community of Practice to support relationships with employers and community partners.
  • Supporting a culture of collaboration – Ensure open communication and contribute to initiatives that foster a culture supporting student career success.
  • Ambassador – Represent Career Services in university, community, and networking events, visits to employer sites, and hosting organizations on campus.
  • Educator – Share expertise around recruitment trends and labour market issues within the university community.

Supervision (30%)

  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of CUPE staff.
  • Provide direction and feedback to the Clerical Assistant (CUPE 3) and Administrative Assistant (CUPE 5).
  • Oversee the creation of resources, supports, and procedures that ensure a high‑quality user experience.
  • Review and approve sick, vacation, and EDO requests/reports.
  • Ensure coverage of reception during planned absences.
  • Arrange coverage in the event of unexpected absences.

General (Embedded in core accountabilities)

  • Collaborate with the Career Services team to develop and deliver programming aligned with strategic direction.
  • Ensure programming is aligned with institutional, college, unit, and student outcomes.
  • Ensure work is completed within deadlines, setting priorities and reporting outcomes.
  • Assist in developing and managing annual budgets for initiatives.
  • Undertake personal and professional development activities to advance expertise.
  • Support equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) within Career Services.
  • Assist with day‑to‑day front‑line service when necessary.
Education

An undergraduate university degree. An equivalent level of education and experience may be considered.

Experience
  • Minimum 3–5 years of related experience with a demonstrated progression in responsibility.
  • Experience networking and building professional relationships through business development, customer service, relationship management, or recruitment roles.
  • Experience supervising others in a professional setting is preferred.
  • Experience working within higher education, the University of Saskatchewan, and/or familiarity with Career Services is an asset.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities or organizations is an asset.
