This position requires strong communication skills, cultural sensitivity, attention to detail, and the ability to support clients who may be experiencing stress or hardship.

The Social Development Intake Worker reports directly to the Social Development Administrator and works collaboratively with the Case Manager to ensure clients move through the intake and assessment process smoothly and efficiently.

  • Notify the SDA and Case Manager when applications are ready for review.
Initial Case Support
  • Identify immediate or urgent client needs and flag them appropriately.
  • Assist with scheduling intake meetings and follow-up appointments.
  • Prepare client folders, intake summaries, and all necessary forms for case review.
  • Maintain organized paper and electronic files according to documentation standards.
Client Relations
  • Build positive, professional relationships with clients who may be experiencing stress or crisis.
  • Explain program requirements and next steps in clear, simple language.
  • Act as a first point of support, ensuring clients feel respected and understood.
Policy & Compliance
  • Apply relevant guidelines under the Mi’kmaq Enhanced Social Policy during intake.
  • Refer policy-related questions to the SDA or Case Manager when needed.
  • Ensure all information is handled in accordance with confidentiality and privacy standards.
  • Support program compliance by ensuring intake files meet documentation requirements.
