Key Roles and Responsibilities: Data Center Technical Manager/Architect
1. Advanced Technical Support
Handle escalated issues from L1/L2 teams related to compute platforms (e.g., virtualization, servers, hyperconverged infrastructure).
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware failures (blade servers, rack servers), firmware, and BIOS-level issues.
Deep dive into platform performance issues (e.g., CPU/memory spikes, resource contention).
2. Virtualization & Hypervisor Expertise
Support and maintain VMware, Hyper-V, KVM, or other hypervisor platforms.
Manage VM provisioning, lifecycle, performance tuning, and resource allocation.
Patch and upgrade hypervisor clusters with minimal impact.
3. Infrastructure Automation and Scripting
Develop and maintain scripts (PowerShell, Python, Bash) for platform management and automation.
Work with tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Puppet for IaaC (Infrastructure as a Code).
4. Compute and Platform Maintenance
Plan and execute firmware, BIOS, and OS patching for compute nodes.
Support bare-metal provisioning and OS deployment (Linux/Windows).
Manage integration of compute platforms with storage and networking.
5. Monitoring and Optimization
Use enterprise monitoring tools (e.g., vROps, Nagios, SolarWinds, Prometheus) to track system health.
Proactively analyze capacity and performance trends; recommend optimization strategies.
6. Incident, Problem & Change Management
Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) for major incidents.
Create and review change requests; ensure proper risk assessment.
Maintain documentation and knowledge base articles for recurring problems.
7. Security and Compliance
Ensure platform configurations adhere to corporate security policies and regulatory standards (e.g., CIS benchmarks).
Assist with vulnerability remediation and hardening of compute infrastructure.
8. Collaboration and Project Involvement
Collaborate with architecture teams to design and implement new compute and platform solutions.
Provide SME (Subject Matter Expert) input for infrastructure projects and migrations.
Work with vendors (e.g., Dell, HPE, Lenovo) for support and lifecycle planning.
