Job summary
A leading engineering firm in Abu Dhabi is seeking a Lead Draftsman (Pipeline) to prepare detailed designs for oil and gas projects. The role requires expertise in CAD software like AutoCAD and a strong understanding of industry standards. Ideal candidates will have a degree in Mechanical or Petroleum Engineering and proven experience in pipeline design and routing.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in pipeline design for oil, gas, or petrochemical projects.
- Strong knowledge of ASME, ANSI, API, and ISO standards for pipeline design.
- Ability to collaborate with engineers on design-related issues.

The Lead Draftsman (Pipeline) is responsible for preparing and developing detailed pipeline designs, drawings, and layouts for onshore and offshore oil & gas projects. This role involves working closely with engineers, project teams, and other disciplines to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and client requirements.
- Develop and prepare pipeline design drawings, plans, and schematics using CAD / 3D software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, PDMS, or equivalent).
- Assist in route selection, alignment sheets, and material take-offs.
- Ensure designs comply with engineering standards, codes (ASME, API, ISO), and project specifications.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other disciplines to resolve design-related issues.
- Update and maintain pipeline drawings and documents throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review vendor drawings, perform clash checks, and incorporate feedback.
- Participate in design review meetings, HAZOP / HAZID, and constructability reviews.
- Support the preparation of as-built drawings and project documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Petroleum Engineering or Diploma in Mechanical
- Proven experience in pipeline design, layout, and routing for oil, gas, or petrochemical projects.
- Strong knowledge of ASME, ANSI, API, and ISO standards for pipeline design.
- Proficient in design software: AutoCAD, PDMS, PDS, SmartPlant 3D, or equivalent
