Job summary
A global shipping company in KwaZulu-Natal is seeking Scanner Operators for their cold storage facility. The role involves accurately scanning pallet movements and inventory to facilitate the handling of fruit products. Candidates should have a Grade 12 diploma and 1-5 years of operational experience, preferably in cold storage or the fruit export industry. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential as the role includes working collaboratively with warehouse staff to ensure compliance and efficiency.

To ensure accurate and efficient tracking, scanning of pallet movements and inventory in the cold storage facility, supporting the smooth handling and export of fruit products.
- Scanning Operations: Ensure all incoming and outgoing shipments are scanned and documented accurately.
- Use handheld scanners to track and record the movement of pallets and inventory within the facility.
- Assist in real-time stock updates by scanning products into the warehouse management system (WMS).
- Ensure quality of work through proper documentation and verification of barcoded product for intake and dispatch.
- Coordinate with forklift, reach truck, and PPT operators to ensure the correct pallets are scanned and moved efficiently.
- Identify and report damaged or incorrectly labelled pallets.
- Assist with detection, segregation, and isolation of non-conforming quality defects.
- Work closely with warehouse staff, drivers, and supervisors to maintain an efficient workflow.
- Assist with general warehouse duties when needed.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, IT security and hygiene regulations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols while operating in the warehouse, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure the scanning equipment is maintained and report any malfunctions immediately.
- Education: Grade 12 diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-5 years of operating experience, preferably in a cold storage environment. Experience in the fruit export industry is preferred.
- Skills & Competencies: Proficient in using scanning devices and data entry software. Attention to detail and accuracy in data handling. Strong organizational, problem‑solving and time‑management skills. Ability to work in a fast‑paced, cold storage environment. Good communication skills in a team environment. Ability to follow instructions accurately to achieve daily performance goals. Ability to read and understand shipping and intake documents, and safety guidelines.
