Introduction
This is a site-based role on a utility-scale solar project, supporting the full execution phase of construction and commissioning. The position exists to oversee and coordinate mechanical balance-of-plant works, grid-interconnection interfaces, and contractor performance on site. You will work closely with the Site Superintendent to ensure safety, quality, schedule discipline, and compliance with all project requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise day-to-day contractor activities across mechanical balance-of-plant and related construction scopes.
- Monitor construction progress against schedules, identify potential clashes, and interrogate contractor mitigation plans.
- Enforce compliance with approved specifications, ITPs/QCPs, standards, HSE requirements, and quality procedures.
- Conduct surveillance inspections, witness tests, verify construction processes, and ensure proper material handling.
- Maintain detailed daily records, observation logs, and photographic documentation of all works and delays.
- Coordinate with the Site Superintendent, Project Manager, HSE, Quality, Commissioning, and O&M teams.
- Review and comment on contractor progress claims, applying earned-value assessments where required.
- Support punch listing, verification, and project completion activities, ensuring all contract requirements are met before handover.
- Verify accuracy and completeness of as-built documentation.
- Assist with meeting coordination, tracking action items, and ensuring timeous close-out of quality-related issues.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- 5+ years’ experience as a Site Supervisor on large construction projects (renewables experience advantageous).
- Strong understanding of mechanical construction, contractor coordination, and utility-scale solar project execution.
- Familiarity with inspection and test plans, quality control processes, RFIs, and construction documentation.
- Ability to interpret project schedules and assess impacts on critical path activities.
- Solid communication, reporting, and stakeholder-coordination skills within a multidisciplinary site team.
- Ability to work site-based for the full construction duration.
- South African citizen preferred.
- Engineering qualification (mechanical or similar) advantageous but not strictly required.
