The Arizona State Hospital (ASH) provides inpatient psychiatric care to individuals with serious mental illness, supporting patients through individualized treatment plans and a commitment to recovery.

The Psychologist is a core member of an interdisciplinary treatment team, delivering psychological services to patients on civil or forensic inpatient units. Responsibilities include conducting violence risk assessments, neuropsychological evaluations, diagnostic clarifications, competency evaluations, and individual and group therapy. The Psychologist develops behavior plans for aggression and self‑injury, offers professional supervision, leads educational training for staff, and coordinates the psychology component with other treatment units. The role supports program evaluation, recommends enhancements, and collaborates with external agencies and universities to promote continuous professional development.

• Participate as a member of the treatment team, develop programs and behavior plans, consult with staff, and provide direct therapy to patients on the unit.
• Conduct psychological evaluations, including violent risk assessment, neuropsychological testing, and competency evaluations.
• Provide individual and group therapy.
• Supervise interns and students clinically.
• Engage in continuing education and offer training to hospital staff.
• Assist with cognitive remediation and other related duties as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned (typically 5%–10% of time).

• Knowledge of psychological counseling techniques, comprehensive screening and testing procedures, contemporary trends in psychology and sociology, research methods, data analysis, report writing, performance management, continuous quality improvement, and lean methodologies.
• Skills in delivering patient‑centered therapy, oral and written communication, case management, interpersonal relations, and professional report writing.
• Abilities to work within a multidisciplinary team, provide timely documentation, administer and interpret a range of psychological tests accurately, write summaries of professional quality, provide clinical oversight, and support a diverse and inclusive workforce.

• Training in a wide range of psychological assessments and at least one year of professional experience as a licensed psychologist, or equivalent forensic or civil population training.
• Experience with sexual offending treatment or assessment preferred (but not required).
• Preference for applicants with public health experience.

• Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card per A.R.S. § 41‑1758.07.
• Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and licensure in Arizona (or eligibility to obtain licensure within one year).
• Valid, state‑issued driver’s license and maintained driving record if driving on state business is required.
• Successful completion of the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E‑Verify).
