Minimum 5-day Introduction to Palliative Care training.

612 months of palliative care experience.

Registered with HPCSA and actively practicing.

Valid driver's license and own transport.

Objectives: To maximize quality of life through patient-centered holistic care.

1. Assessment and facilitation of pain control.
2. Understanding principles of pain relief and side effects of treatment.
3. Management of medication administration, e.g., syringe drivers.
4. Management of physical symptoms such as nausea, constipation, impaction, diarrhea, cough, dyspnea, delirium, dementia, and malodorous wounds.
5. Management of the terminal phase.
6. Assessment and facilitation of psychosocial and spiritual care.
7. Supporting families during illness and bereavement.
8. Handling ethical dilemmas in end-of-life care.
9. Effective communication and coordination with the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
10. Monitoring and evaluating the quality of care.
11. Providing hands-on care when required.
12. Educating patients and families to enable informed decisions.
13. Advocating for patient-centered palliative care.
